Resumo: (Volunteering Children with Cancer)
We want to offer the necessary support to minors and families affected by childhood cancer at all times, trying to improve their quality of life at all times. For this we carry out the following actions:
- Disseminate the existence of childhood cancer.
- Offer social and psychological care.
- Facilitate the educational integration of the child.
- Provide family leisure activities.
- Provide accommodation for families on the move.
- Improve hospital facilities and equipment.
- Manage and provide financial aid.
- Facilitate possible trips to other regions.
- Promote and improve health care for children.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Volunteer´s profile requirements: legal age of majority and being in good physical and mental condition. We are looking for a responsable, highly motivated and active volunteer who possesses good social, soft and team skills.
The volunteer should be creative, flexible, empathatic, curious and like to do sports activities. Furthermore, the volunteer´s expectations should fit with the aims of our NGO. Good Spanish skills are a must, experience with working with children and/or adolescents, living abroad and dealing with different cultures are a plus.
Tarefas: The objective of the volunteering project is to support our Canarian non-profit foundation in its mission to improve the quality of life of cancer-affected children and their families. This will be done through the organisation and realisation of diverse activities and events inside and outside the hospital. The volunteer will participate actively in the following activity types:
1) Leisure and sports activities,
2) Sensibilisation and information activities and
3) Activities realised in the oncohematology unit of the collaborating hospitals. First activities, the volunteer shall help to generate a dynamic, creative, participatory and fun environment targeted at hospitalised children and cancer-affected youth outside the hospital. Second, awareness shall be risen about the disease childhood cancer and the work of our foundation. This will be done in close collaboration with and support of the professional team and our local volunteers.
Condições: According to the guidelines of indiviudal volunteering projects in the frame of the European Solidarity Corps, all costs of accommodation, food and transport are covered.
