Resumo: We are preparing a project called “Rural youth also deserve a chance” related to the topic of social inclusion for disadvantaged youth as well as the topic of intergenerational dialogue.
The EVS project will be a six-month long project starting from May 2012 and ending in October 2012(but if all three interested volunteers are ready to stay longer we can extend the project duration).
The Community Centre has a lot of local, regional and international activities with its authentic folklore group, the tourist association, the local global library and youth club.
Perfil: We expect from the volunteers to be open minded and strongly motivated to work with the target group. The main criteria for selection will be their motivation to join the project. We also expect general knowledge in English so the volunteers can understand each other and with the project manager until they learn some Bulgarian. During their prject the volunteers will work both with professional youth workers and local youth learning from their experience. Thus they will learn team building skills and will help our organisation without substituting paid workers.
Among the main criterias under which we will select our vounteers are:
- strong motivation and desire to work with children and youth;
- fresh project ideas for stimulating the local youth activity;
- motivation to help disadvantged children and youth (such as: drop-outs, victims to violence, diviant youth and children living in social institutions);
- readiness to help for the implementation of various youth projcts and initiatives;
- responsible to themselves and the surrounding people;
- ready to share their experience and knowledge with the children and youth attending the Youth Information Centre
Tarefas:
The main activities of the volunteers under the project will be:
- working with the children and youth involved in the projects of the Youth Information Centre for their personal development;
- organising local inititives and projects;
- helping the host organisation for the development of youth projects;
- initiating outdor activities such as camps, picnics, outdoor sport events;
- taking part in the activities of the Eco Club and Club "Debate";
- organising workshops
- organising intercultural initiatives fostering intercultural dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding among youth of different ethic , religious, socio and economical background;
- weekly work with the children and youth from the Orphanage in Kalofer and the Centre for Community Support - Sopot;
Condições: We are ready to host and manage 2-3 volunteers at the same time. We can provide them with working space and normal living conditions. As we are an organisation concerned about the quality of its projects we will manage the activities under the project and will maintain constant contact with the volunteers offering them personal and professional support.
We will try to accommodate the volunteers together with separate rooms for each one and common bathroom and kitchen. Their lodging place will be near the Youth Information Centre so we can offer them help and support anytime they need it. We will provide mentors for the volunteers. The mentors will be well-informed about their responsibilitis and the EVS project and will help the volunteers to better integrate in the local community, for their tasks and project activities. They will also help the volunteers socialize and make new friends , do something intersting in their free time. The mentors will offer moral and psychological support in case of crisis moments acting as friends of the volunteers.
Besides, Mrs. Zaharlieva, our executive director, has undergone a specialised SOHO training course in Dublin, Ireland organisaed by the Irish NAs. She will also offer full support for the mentors and volunteers as well as for the volunteers evaluations and planning of follow-up activities.
Our organisation is ready to host disadvantaged volunteers of different kinds - socially, educationally, geographically, ethnically and culturally disadvantaged youth, since we have experience with working with similar youth in the region. Our organisaton has implemented several projects in multiethnic and multicultural background. We have experinced psychologist in our team who helps us in crisis, risk and conflict management.
Karlovo is a peaceful and beautiful town with friendly and hospitable citizens, located at the foot of the Stara Planina Mountains. Our organisation is fully supported by the Municipality of Karlovo and the Local Police Office who will be informed for the arrival of the volunteers. We will also try to find the lodging place of the volunteers in a quiet neighbourhood near the Youth Information Centre providing them with the necessary living comfort. Besides, the volunteers will be surrounded by friendly youth who will help them better adapt to our community. We will present the volunteers in the local media, with whom we also work very well, so that the community is well- aware of the presence and work of the volunteers.
Our previous experience with Peace Corps volunteers has been completely positive and satisfactory and we haven't had any risky situatios. On the contrary, both volunteers extended their period of stay. So far we haven't had any problems or conflicts with our current EVS volunteer - Elin Brudin as well.
In case of any risk and conflict situations we will rely on our experience and professional skills for working with volunteers , the moral support of the mentors and the professional help of a psychologist in case of need.
Our organisation has experience for working with underaged youth since we work with the local schools under different projects and initiatives. We have also implemented succesfully two multilateral youth exchanges where most of the participents were under 18.
If the selected volunteers are underage we will provide them with additional mentors as our team will be also in constant contact and will offer full personal and proffesional support.
Formação: Our projects aim at fostering youth creativity, innovation and active involvement in the activities of the Youth Information Centre and the life of the Municipality in general. During their EVS project the volunteers working with our local youth will help children and youth from disadvantaged families, children at risk through art, music, non-formal education and different initiatives and projects to get better integrated into the society and among their peers. Apart from that our project will contribute to fighting dependencies such as drugs, alcohol and cigarettes addictions as the volunteers will develop various prevention campaigns. In their free time the local youth will be involved in our clubs - Eco Club, Club Debate and Art Club and this way they will forget about their bad habbits. The project activities will also aim at fostering tolerance and mutual understanding, fighting stereotypes and discrimination as the children from the Orphanage in Kalofer are in disadvantaged social condition, of varios ethnic background and children at risk.
The team of our oprganisation will help and support all initiatives and activities which the volunteers might wish to implement.
