Resumo: The hosting organization is a traditional Danish folk high school, where young people between 16 and 19 years stay to learn democracy in practice, strengthen social abilities and develop skills in subjects like sports, design, art, outdoor life, music, theatre, philosophy, politics, journalism, sustainability, and cooking. At classes – and everywhere else – we speak a combination of Danish and English.

As a folk high school, we operate on the main aims: life information, public information, and democratic formation.

The values of the school are open mindedness, human respect, responsibility, and community in a safe environment.

The students are her on voluntary basis for either one or two semesters, the classes are mandatory, but there are no tests or exams. Our students come here between primary school and youth education, to work with subjects of interest and to prepare themselves for their further education.

For our international students, and our volunteers, we have the subject Danish, where Danish language and culture is taught.

The organization is an international school, where young people from around the world come to stay. Approximately one third of our students are international. International and Danish students live together in one of our four student houses. Three of our Contact Groups are international.

All students live at the school in double or single rooms. All students help with practical tasks, such as cleaning and dish washing.

All teachers live in houses around UHR, which gives a very special and safe, homely environment.

Perfil: Age: 18-30

The following criteria would be preferable:

– The students at the organziation are between 16 and 19 years, so volunteers around mid- twenties to thirty will be preferred.
– Volunteers that can contribute in areas such as teaching, kitchen, office, cleaning and handiwork will be preferred.
– English speaking volunteers will be preferred.

Tarefas: you become part of a small, strong community, where students and staff live and work together.

The two volunteers are invited into the planning process, for them to put their personal stamp on their activities in classes and other areas. The planning will be made together with the volunteers either ahead of, or at the very beginning of their stay. The volunteers are also involved in the practical and pedagogical processes at the organization, why they will participate in the weekly staff-meetings.

Further, the volunteers will take part in the work with the international contact groups. Another important aspect of the volunteers’ integration and connection to the students and teachers at the UHR are the meals which the volunteers will have together with the staff and students.

Typical tasks at the organization will, on one hand, be practical work with office, caretaker, kitchen, cleaning, or teaching. On the other hand, it will be of pedagogical character in relation to language classes, sports classes, or creative classes.

Evening activities, classes and events for the students can be arranged by the volunteers in corporation with the staff.

Volunteering work can take place on weekdays as well as in weekends.

Christmas holiday is from 23/12 2023 till 5/1 2024, where the school is closed. Volunteers can stay at the school during the vacation, but there are no meals at the school.

As a volunteer you will have a teacher for your mentor. You will follow this teacher’s contact group.

Volunteers assist the teachers on the two study trips in autumn and in spring.

In the final week of the activity period volunteers will assist on the short summer course.

Accommodation is in a small apartment on campus, in single rooms. All meals are served in the school’s dining room.

Horário: Working hours: 30-38 hours/week

All volunteers save up to 2 holidays every month.

Condições: The volunteers are lodged at the Youth folk high school where they will live in a separate area with bedrooms and a bathroom. All meals will be provided by the school in the dining room together with the students and the staff.
