Resumo: (ESC Volunteering Team)
The values behind our work are common to all Finnish Youth Centers:
- Valuable youth work: Fair, genuine and respectful encounters in a safe environment. Everyone has the right to be heard and to have their say.
- A genuine experience: We create moments that allow young people to connect with other people, with nature, and with themselves. A genuine experience is more than just an experience – it’s an adventure.
- Respect for life and nature: We support individuals’ life management skills and well-being. We promote sustainable development and strengthen individuals’ relationship with nature.
- An evolving community: We are an inspiring and creative partner. We work with heart and professionalism. Our enthusiasm for renewal realizes through lifelong learning.

The main priorities in our functions are national and international camp schools, excursions for exchange students, development of social and international youth work (ESC-volunteering, youth exchanges), and local, national, and international youth cooperation. The organization also carries out training which is meant as a supporting tool for NEET youngsters with fewer opportunities. Our center is located in the middle of nature in the rural area, and we use nature and adventure education as our working methods too. Our actions base mainly on experiential activities that are related to nature, sports, wellbeing, culture, and creativity. Activities include e.g. hiking, wilderness skills, paddling, skiing, snowshoeing, climbing, handicrafts, cooking, games and sports that increase team spirit and many kinds of social and physical skills. We work also in youth tourism. We also carry out sport clubs for kids and youngsters, and at the moment we are providing club activity funded by Suomen harrastamisen malli, in cooperation with the municipality and school.

- Privilege to participation is given to applicants who don't have that much ESC project
experience before

*Youth Center is located in the middle of nowhere, and surrounded by beautiful nature; big lake, forest, hills, and wilderness. Nearest village is 10km away, and there is no public transportation. When the project starts, Polar night is ending and we'll see a glipse of sun afterlong sun-less period, and daytime gets longer every day. Midwinteris absolutely beautifull, pastel-colored season and good time to see also auroras.

Tarefas: Volunteers work at the world’s northernmost indigenous peoples' film festival and help with arranging film festivals, and also at Youth Center.

At Film festival, volunteers' working tasks consist working at festivals e.g. putting up festival setups, selling and checking tickets, social media marketing, taking down festival setups, cleaning, etc.

At the centre volunteers' working tasks consist e.g. building a snow world in the youth center yard, and planning and organizing outdoor winter happening in the snow world for local kids and families. Also, volunteers make social media content to make project visible.

During project, volunteers learn and develop various kinds of working life skills as well as everyday life skills. Other aims are developing language skills, learning about cultures, and getting to know how is life in far north.

Accommodation in apartment with 5 bedrooms, and shared kitchen, common area, showers and toilets. There will be 1-3
people per bedroom.

In mid-winter, temperatures might be freezingly cold, and working tasks include working outdoors (considering
temperature). There are warm winter clothes available in the city.
