Resumo: The hosting organization is a social promotion association founded in 1985 and active in the field of inclusion and social solidarity; combines immediate help for people in difficulty with the aim of removing the causes of discomfort and marginalization. Main areas of activity:
1. leisure time animation for people with different kinds of fragilty and with a prevalence of mental and psychological distress associated with situations of marginalization of various kinds. The free time often represents the most critical moment of the day for these people, the moment in which loneliness and marginalization are perceived. The volunteers made themselves available to listen and animate various activities through weekdays, holidays and periodic meetings to accompany and support individuals and their families. Training and debate moments are organized, as well as entertainment, cultural or sports meetings on a weekly basis; stays and trips; courses and workshops (artistic, culinary, sewing, maintenance and more). A theater group made up mainly of people with disabilities is active and realizes shows on issues of civil commitment;

2. Temporary hospitality for people in difficulty. The association manages two reception facilities, which welcome people with different situations of hardship in order to guide them to autonomy according to individualized social reintegration projects. The association also hosts in daytime access other people in situations of marginalization and adolescent minors in a trial regime, educational accompaniment services in an industrious and socializing context.

3. development of a culture of integration and social justice. The association builds targeted projects that concern different sectors of intervention (construction of the operational network, identification of social emergencies, social animation, educational critical issues, personalized psychological assistance, promotion of civil rights against various social discrimination, apprenticeships and internships aimed at the care of person) and different target groups (young people, disabled people, people in a state of discomfort of a social, economic, housing nature, subjects in a trial regime). The planning is developed on a local, national and European level. In particular, resources and commitment are dedicated to promoting solidarity, the value of volunteering and active citizenship.

Tarefas: 1) Participation in training courses. The presence of ESC volunteers integrates with the other forms of volunteering present on site, such as the Universal Civil Service, participating in its numerous study and institutional training activities. This collaboration is aimed at creating a united and supportive work team and at maintaining a stimulating and educational environment for people who come from situations of difficulty or ignorance of their duties and rights. This participation allows you to explore the opportunities offered by Europe in its many institutions, by Italy as a nation and by the Veneto Region and the Province of Venice which welcomes these young people in its territory.

2) Participation in the life of the small community. Support for operators and volunteers who organize the reception, meals, cleaning, meetings for safety in the workplace, for compliance with the rules of privacy and conflict resolution, parties and free time and various activities for people in different conditions of distress. Support for activities that take place on weekdays (workshops, evening meetings, board games) and on weekends or during holidays (trips, tourist and cultural experiences); Exchange of culinary cultural habits, anniversaries, traditions, clothing and more during the time of the canteen, personal interviews and various meetings. Knowledge of the history of the association and of the purposes it pursues in the style of Italian volunteering through the narration of the members.

3) Participation in the association's active projects. Support in the reception activities of people who need an educational experience (e.g. adolescents in an alternative criminal measure) or socially rehabilitative (young people with various types of disabilities) or inclusion (linguistic support for asylum seekers) and who benefit from the activities of daily life of the residential community and of the association.

4) Participation in the life of the large civil community. Knowledge of the history and values of Italian volunteering in comparison with that of one's own country of origin. Knowledge of the movements that work for the common good in Italy and in the world. Attendance of initiatives of some civil commitment movements in different sectors to which Il Portico often offers its headquarters and with which it collaborates (Legambiente, Amnesty International, Emergency, Libera, Movimento Decrescita Felice, Movimenti Nonviolenti, Greenpeace, MOVI Italian voluntary movement).

The activities̀ are mainly on a weekly or periodic basis. The participants, after a period of orientation and knowledge of the association, of its daily life and of the people who frequent it, will begin to orient themselves and to choose. They will offer support to one or more activities according to what is shared in the selection phase and according to what they will acquire from direct and contingent experience (which can provoke new ideas or necessary changes following the comparison between their expectations and the reality "experienced).
