Horário: Time of activity: maximum of 7 hours/day; 2 free days/week Holidays: 2 days/month of activity.

Condições: Accommodation, in a flat with all legally established measures to avoid risks. The flat has individual rooms for volunteers, WC, kitchen, living-room. Location: in the centre of the city. At arrival, they will receive all needed information regarding transport, supermarkets,.. and we will organise a "welcome week" to make volunteers known and to help them to integrate.

Volunteers will be covered by the civil responsability insurance for staff members. They will also have the EU insurance and the assistance of our staff, as well as the support of the department for prevention of risks of the City Council of Avila. The places of activity will fulfil all security rules.

During the first weeks, volunteers will receive information from the mentor about emergency phone numbers and urgency services in Avila, as well as the conditions for the use of vehicles, alcohol and tobacco regulations,... and they will receive a 24 hour emergency aid.

To guarantee secure living and working environments, experts, specific staff members and entertainers will evaluate the risks of open-air activities, and inform about them, as well as the needed protection needed to carry them out.

Formação: Our organization provides volunteers with an opportunity of personal growth, professional training, through a communication and exchange environment to enable them, during their long stay in Spain, to understand different realities and develop intercultural competence and awareness about Europe.

Volunteer will gain experience through direct contact with young people from different nationalities and participate organising activities such as festivals, conferences, meetings, forums, workshops... in turn, they will contribute to improve the cultural background of local community resources. The learning experience at work will take place working directly with staff in the youth area, with continuous mentoring. The mentor will choose the appropriate tasks of volunteers according to their attitude, experiences and skills.

During work and free time, volunteers will become aware of the ways of thinking and acting of people from different countries, learn about values, compare and find similarities, analyse roles and stereotypes, face prejudices and accept differences (integration and mediation).

Volunteers shall participate in the organisation and planning meetings, exchange opinions, provide suggestions, contribute actively and develop their non-formal learning and their capacity of taking initiatives.

The staff at the Youth Council will try to know the volunteers and foster their motivation towards personal and professional growth.

On the other hand, regarding the role of volunteers in the host organisation, the process of planning activities in which the volunteer will participate from the beginning of their project is important. The primary objective of the organisation is professional and personal growth of volunteers, enabling them to actively participate in the planning and implementation of activities, always bearing in mind that they will not replace any member of the organization.

Suggestions from volunteers are positively assessed. They cannot make decisions without prior approval by their mentor, who will tell them how to act; apart from the mentor, there is a person in charge of coordinating and supervising the individual actions of volunteers, allowing for feedback and adapting the tasks as needed and facing potential problems.

Volunteers will learn new ways of promoting active citizenship among young people, listening and observing their needs in a direct way, capturing their interest and stimulating the development of their creativity and ability to organize activities according to their interests. They can also observe how the rest of the team works with young people, and benefit from and with their daily contributions.

Volunteers may develop and improve their potential, capacities and skills (artistic, computer, education ...) working with the management and implementation of workshops and activities.

During the first months of stay in Spain, they can deepen into the Spanish language and culture, receive a Spanish course to improve understanding skills and may adapt positively to the local reality.
The organisation will expand the degree of involvement of volunteers as they acquire skills and knowledge (language expression and integration in the local reality). At the beginning, volunteers may speak English if they have problems with Spanish.

With time, volunteers will have a less observation role and participate and collaborate more with the team members. They can develop and carry out activities according to their sills and concerns.

They will have the occasion of expressing their points of view and enrich from it (and make the organisation enrich) and cause intercultural exchange and awareness.

Volunteers may suggest ideas and new methods and organisational models that allow for innovative solutions. This, along with language and cultural skills of the volunteer, will cause an atmosphere of cultural exchange that may be reflected in the community.
