The activities in which the volunteers will take part in these projects will be of support to the technicians and professionals of the project. They will take part in interviews presenting the project to beneficiaries, families and institutions; they will assist the technicians in assessing disabilities, and in designing individual employment insertion projects, in the search for companies, project presentation, and follow up of the people that have taken up jobs. In the special work centres, they will support the technicians in the different fields (gardening, nursery, computer graphic design, up keeping of premises), both in education and teaching dimensions. They will take part in the team , coordinating and planning meetings. They will also take part in the design and development of specific programmes. Condições: As we mentioned before the team taking part in EVS in multidisciplinary. In it, there are clinical psychologists who are usually responsible for the monitoring of the volunteers. During the first months there will be a weekly follow up, in addition to the daily follow up from the mentor. The contact between the psychologist and the mentor is constant. So the team can respond immediately to any request.
We are aware, since we started acting as coordinating organisation for hosting and sending volunteers in 1999, that some times conflicts are unavoidable due to the nature of the experience, young people in a "strange" environment. Our objective is not so much to eliminate conflicts, but to know how to channel them. We believe the important thing is that the young person learns to handle it in a positive way and sees the conflict as an opportunity fro personal growth. We base our method in active listening, empathy and joint analysis of the problem, in order to find and negotiate a solution.
In some few cases, where the problem did not have an immediate solution, the objective then was to regulate it according to our responsibilities, as a hosting organisation, In these cases we contacted the sending organisation or the Spanish National Agency, for advise.
Conflict resolution process
To prevent potential conflicts the Foundation makes a permanent follow up of the volunteers where in order to identify any problems that might arise. We Have a procedure in place consisting on EVALUATION, ASSESMENT, GUIDANCE and FOLLOW UP (EVOS its acronym in Spanish) which works as follows:
1.- Direct contact with the volunteer to get an accurate description of the problem.
2.- Meeting with the EVS team of the Foundation to discuss the situation.
3.- Suggest the volunteer a direct solution with the mentor.
4.- If there is a positive answer, increase the follow up to confirm the problem has been resolve over the next days or weeks. If we get a negative response, we contact the sending organisation.
5.- If we don't get a positive response from the sending organisation, we will contact the Spanish National Agency, for advice on the best way to proceed according to their criteria.
Formação: The big number of activities offered by the Foundation, allows the volunteers to have different learning experiences depending on their preferences and interests. Volunteers will support the different projects and activities, and may participate in the design and implementation of the activities which most adapt to their interests, expectations and profile. There will be place for them to provide their ideas and suggestions, so they can actively participate and integrate in the team.
They will take an active part in our community, acquire formal and informal experiences; reinforce their sense of social comitment, acquire values such as solidarity, ability for team work, tolerance, European awareness, and improve social skills…
