Resumo: The motivation to host volunteers from EVS is:
.- To work for the benefit of the community .
.- To promote communication between young European citizens to improve understanding and cooperation.
.- To strengthen values to unite differences.
.- To approach Europe to the young people while making them feel useful promoting participation.
.- To approach Europe to a rural environment and promote a cultural exchange with the young and the old people. This opens borders and makes people be open to proposals from outside.
Why? Because we live in a rural environment, where we are suffering an exodus of the young people to the cities, women are still in a second plane, there are few associations of any nature and the population is aged.

This is why the association is trying to improve everybody's quality of life in the following way:
- With young people and children through policies promoted from the "Youth House".
- - With the third age through a inter-generation dialog, training, etc.
- - With Europe through the presence of St Jackob's Way (El Camino de Santiago) and its significance.
- - With the volunteers as a way of acting as compromised European citizens.

The City Council of Formista wants to get the young people in touch with our community, acting as a sending, host and coordinating EVS organisation. We want to host volunteers and also give local youth in the rural environment the chance of taking our culture to other places. We believe that this is the way to create a real exchange and intercultural learning.
We try to help the volunteers we host to learn the language and Spanish culture, as to mature, and acquire personal and professional skills that will be useful for his or her future. We also get the opportunity through this initiative to establish contacts with other organisations for future exchanges.
The Council has been working with the YiA Program, since 2001. It has hosted 30 young volunteers from 13 different countries and sent 7 to 5 different countries.

Perfil: Our preference if for young people motivated to live this experience and who like the rural environment, in a small town. Willing to participate, learn and offer what they know. Social skills with children, young people and elderly are desirable. Awareness with these collectives is also necessary.

Tarefas: The volunteers will participate in some of these activities:

-Social activities in Residence for elderly peple or
-Youth activities in Youth Centre and Youth Information or
-Cultural activities

IN THE YOUTH HOUSE:

1. Information activities:supporting tasks together with the youth reporter.

2. Cultural activities: together with the social educator, learn planning activities and collaborate with some of them: courses, talks, intercultural workshops, reading encouragement, recovery of folk games, video-forum, etc.

3. Sport activities, collaboration to carry out and develop sport competitions, together with the leaders. For example: canooing, badmington, tennis, swimming, table-tennis, etc.

4. Leisure activities, together with the socio-cultural animator, social educator and other animators hired for the occasion, activities for youth and children: summer school, summer library, trips, etc.

The volunteer can also:
- have informative talks at the school and at home for elderly , n traditions, geographical location, culture, education, food, etc. of their country.

- write articles for magazines and brochures and be interviewed on local radio.

- teach or develop dishes from their country in gastronomic meetings with young people and children or when they go to the winery.

- have language talks, depending on the origin of the volunteers, and once adapted and mastering the language, volunteers may perform tasks supporting language learning.

- creating a Personal Journal and updating BLOG, in which the volunteer will be writing daily anecdotes, experiences and learning, providing photos. This will help them with their personal development and to disseminate their experience among other young people.

Condições: To avoid crisis situations, we will have already established a contact before the project starts, so that they have the needed information about it. They will receive the phone number and e-mail of their mentor and EVS responsible person.
The web site www.fromista.com includes all information about emergency numbers, plans, timetables,... They will receive the e-mail of the people responsible at a regional level. They have a notice board with all emergency numbers at their home.
We will put them in touch with other European volunteers of nearby towns and ex-volunteers living here.
They have free access to the Internet.
The mentor will support them to integrate in the community, as well as the rest of the staff members.
They will receive instructions about the insurance (AXA), visits to doctors,...
They can express their demands and conflicts to the mentor, people responsible and staff at the Council and, if necessary to the regional responsible people.
They will receive psychological support, if needed.
As this is a small town, it is easy to obtain quick answer to anything needed.

Formação: As a coordinating organisation, we offer the volunteers our hospitality, as this is a small town where all inhabitants happily welcome young people who "live" with us their experience.
Volunteers participate actively in the community and provide new, enriching ideas and experiences. They bring cultures near.
They will receive language and culture training; we will enable their integration and show them the needed tools to carry out their tasks.

Their useful, solidarity activity will allow them to acquire social, personal and language aptitudes and abilities.
