Resumo: The hosting organization is a public benefit association that has been working since 2011 to contribute to an inclusive and accepting society in which Roma people have a chance to achieve their goals.
This can only be achieved if we jointly set up changes in the community of the settlements and in the majority society. Our association seeks to make Roma people more capable, while at the same time sensitizing and making more accepting the people belonging to the majority society. The primary aim of our programs is the deliberate development and empowerment of the local community through our presence in the settlements. Based on a holistic approach of our professional work we support entire families with separate programs for children and for adults.

Most of our programs are organized by volunteers, so they are directly involved in professional work.
Our organization does not give donations, but we offer the opportunity to change.
activities can be grouped into the following categories: children’s programs, legal clinic and debt management, adult education, women’s group, mentoring and family consultations.

Our vision is that the involved international volunteers’ experiences will contribute to their learning and sensitization process.
By getting to know the segregated Roma of Bag and Dány, their way of life and culture through the complex, multi-level community approach of BAGázs, they are getting an opportunity to become active and enterprising individuals. Through volunteering, we would like to show some ways by which one can become more competent in the social and
communication field and can better identify the challenges facing disadvantaged groups in their own environment

Perfil: We are looking for 4 volunteers:
● Aged between 21 and 30, EU residents or partner countries
● interested in gaining experience in non-formal education and in working with young people
● energetic, cheerful, proactive
● open to cultural differences
● have at least intermediate level of English knowledge
● team player, but able to be independent
● have their own motivation and strong reasons to participate in the project

Tarefas: Our leisure and educational activities are designed using non-formal education methodologies to develop creativity, involvement, tolerance and acceptance among children and youth.
The participants volunteer around 32 hours a week, the main activities will include:

During summer:
● summer camps: annual summer camps in Bag and Dány, where we spend a whole week in the villages and have programs every day
● craft and sport programs for children: most of the volunteers help in these weekly programs. They plan, organize, and animate them in teams for different age groups (e.g. kindergarten children’s group, football group for adolescent boys)
● workshops for the majority society: we often go to Hungarian festivals to hold workshops about our work and the lesser known realities of segregation
● Bagázs Bazár: our moving charity shop also needs help with sorting clothes, games, household objects, etc.

During school time:
● after-school activities for children in the settlements
● school and kindergarten visits: a great opportunity to reach Roma and non-Roma children together and creating games, projects and an atmosphere where they can concentrate on the shared attributes and less on their differences
● thematic projects with Roma youth: these weekly activities are one of the most popular programs. The aim is to be able to reach and engage young people by giving them options to choose how they want to spend their free time. Volunteers gather into groups for a half year to plan and organize thematic programs e.g. drama club, boardgame club, film club etc.
● English speaking club meetings for Roma and non-Roma youth in the villages’ community houses
● English speaking club meetings in the office for the local children
● Helping out in our office
