Resumo: (ecovillage)
The hosting organization is a member owned and operated Community Supported Agriculture initiative based in the ecovillage. As a not-for-profit social enterprise the Community Farm aims to promote a healthy food culture and guarantee a secure local food supply, as well as hosting training in resilient food systems and sustainable agriculture. Our farm is set within 67 acres of beautiful land dedicated to ecological housing, woodland and active food production. The ecovillage is home to approximately 55 households along with a hostel and a number of non-profit educational enterprises such as Cultivate, Sustainable Projects Ireland, FEASTA and the RED gardens.

The hosting organization provides produce all year round to 60 families in the area and is run on organic and bio-dynamic principles. In association with locally based national NGO's we offer a number of hands-on courses throughout the year in subjects around food production and storage, seed saving, nutritional resilience, permaculture, adding value to agricultural produce and training events for those interested in setting up and maintaining the organization initiatives. We also have links with the local primary schools who make regular visits to the farm. We offer our volunteers the possibility of being involved in all of the above.

Perfil: Age: 18-30
If you like to work in nature, put your hands in the soil, and don’t care about getting wet in winter, this project is for you!

Only apply if you’re interested in healthy food, organic farming, local food systems, community resilience, permaculture, and you’re keen to learn practical skills to address the climate and biodiversity crisis while experiencing life in an Ecovillage.
We welcome self-motivated individuals who enjoy working as part of a team, and would like more experience of working cooperatively.

Tarefas: Based at an ecovillage community farm, our volunteers experience a year’s cycle of organic horticultural production and distribution, and acquire a full set of skills to grow food for a community or small business in an environmentally beneficial way. Regular tasks include sowing seeds, watering, weeding, harvesting, and weighing veg. Other seasonal tasks may include preservation of surplus crops (pickling, fermenting etc) and assisting with building projects.

While the primary commitment is hands-on farm work, some volunteers also take an active role in supporting the farm’s related projects, such as our food hub and digital farmers market.

Volunteers will also be immersed in Ecovillage life and experience community living, collaborative governance and decision making. All this combines to provide a lived example of practical activism as a direct response to climate change, loss of biodiversity, and over-consumption.

Condições: Accommodation is in private rooms, either with local residents or in shared housing with other ESC volunteers. Membership of our Community Farm allows you to take as many organic, local vegetables as you need. Local eggs & sourdough bread are delivered to your doorstep each week, and you also have credit for monthly bulk wholefoods orders.
Everything in the village is within a 5 min walk, including a pharmacist, bookshop, cafe, and small supermarket. Sporadic train and bus services connect the town to major cities and nearby towns, and local residents are also willing to provide lifts.
