The project can be summarized by our invitation to you (the volunteer): ‘Bring us your lifestyle-your cultural interests and preferences (food, music,...), your way of celebrating, your way of dealing with daily life.’

The project will be implemented by letting the volunteer be part of the daily life and work of the handicapped young people and introducing new elements to this daily life. Daily activities for our clients are: cooking, leisure time, eating, taking a shower, self-help training and fysiotherapy. The volunteer can support the work with most of these activities (except fysiotherapy). The volunteer will be introduced to all activities of the centre and will bring in his/her own interests and talents accordingly.
Care is given from 6.30 to 9.00 in the morning and from 15 o’clock and ends at 22 o’clock. In the weekends, we care between 9 am and 22 pm. In total, the volunteer will be at Komit 30 hours a week mainly in the afternoon and evenings and at the weekend (there will be other 2 days off during the week), but not every weekend. The teamtalks at Thursday from 9.30 to 12.30 are importend to coordinate activities.

Horário: Roughly a day could look like this:
The daily programme starts with a meeting of staff, where the volunteer is included. During this meetings activities and working hours are defined.
15-18 o’clock. leisure time activity: some clients have a therapy in the afternoon, some have free time. In this area, the volunteer could help composing the activities: sporting, shopping, playing or listening to music. One aspect of theses activities would be ‘how is this done at home?’, ‘what do I like to do?’, ‘what can we do together?’
18-20 o’clock: dinner: Dinner is prepared with and by our clients and of course is an important part of a culture. The volunteer can on a regular basis introduce some specialty from his/her country, but can also learn him/herself about the Austrian cooking!
20-22 o’clock: The evenings are free for everybody. Often, a group talk evolves from just sitting together. The volunteer can share thoughts and experiences and his/her language and culture (through photo’s, video’s music).
Some of the weekends trips are organised: going to concerts, the disco, practising sport, visit musea or going to the cinema. The volunteer is more than welcome to help organising these activities, or other activities within his/her interest. This is a possibility for the volunteer to explore Vienna together with our clients.

Condições: We do not host volunteers aged under 18. The volunteer will never have the sole responsibility and will not be left alone during the project. The volunteer will also get clear instructions whom to contact in emergency cases. If there are Problems, the volunteer can talk to the mentor of the projekt each week at preconcerted times. We want the volunteer to take part at the team meeting each week to get all nessesary information and to be able to talk about plans or difficunties.
The staff will intervene and provide support and deal with crisis management with both the volunteer and host organisation and will in turn report, if necessary, will liaise with the volunteer's family.
The volunteers will be provided with the needed emergency contacts in Vienna and a phone through which, in case of emergency, the Staff can be reached.

Formação: The Volunteer gets to know an Institution, caring for people with phisical- and/or mental handicaps. He/She is able to get use in contact with the people living here and to get praktice in cultural exchange.
The volunteer will learn more about the structure and philosophy. The volunteer will also bring his/her own culture into our team and to the clients and vice versa. We also try to speak mainly German with the volunteer to support the studying of German.
Lifestyle means for us everything that influences our quality of life: clothing, leisure time, food as well as music, culture, sports, having friends and celebrating parties. Through an encounter with a young person from another country, a new aspect will be added to the lives of our clients and will support the goals summarized above. The volunteer will have partly the same issues that are important for them (individuality, own responsibility) but will also confront us with cultural differences, that will enforce a high flexibility and tolerance from our clients and from the staff. Through living daily life together, talking, discussing, cooking, playing, shopping or going out will bring two cultures together.
