Resumo: Work with elderly people, playing, singing, cooking, hiking, organising festivals for the people or going out with them into the small city.

Perfil: The Home has no concrete requirements about the skills of the volunteers. The important is that the volunteer is open and willing to work with the seniors. It is also important that the willingness is to contribute with his/her skills and abilities.

Tarefas: The idea of hosting the volunteers is that it is possible to provide the various and exciting exchange between the volunteers and the residents. The volunteers have the opportunity to contribute with their skills, abilities, interests, ideas and their culture to enrich the life of the residents.
The volunteers will be involved in social and psychosocial care of the seniors. At the beginning they are going to get to know the everyday processes of the residents and after they can perform their own project with the seniors. They will receive the support from the staff if it is required.
The home offers a large spectrum of tasks in different areas. The volunteers can join different areas according to their skills, abilities, interest and wishes.
The main task of the volunteers is to provide the social and psychosocial care for the seniors. This includes the accompaniment of the residents during the activities inside and outside the Home - visiting the city, arranging the errands, going for a walk, trips.
Inside the Home the volunteers should talk with the seniors, play the games. When it corresponds with the skills of the volunteers, they can make creative activities together - singing, dancing (sitting dances) or sports if it possible for the residents.
From Monday till Friday the specialist of working with seniors held different every day activities. The volunteers have the opportunity to take part in them and support individually the residents. The activities include sport, games, music, handicrafts and also cooking and backing.
The Home manager is very open to other proposals which can be brought by the volunteers according to their experience.
The broader task is to prepare the celebration (party, festival). They can as well help with the decoration of the room. The Home organize the seasonal celebrations like Thanksgiving, Santa Claus, Christmas, carnival, Easter, in which the volunteers can take the main role.
In case the volunteers have the artistic skills they can prepare the long-term interior design of the Home, for example to design and implement the murals or make them outdoors. As well it would be nice if the volunteer with musical skill will be able to organize a concert in the Home.

Horário: The volunteers will be involved in the Seniors Home 30-35 hours. The exact working time of the volunteers will depend on the interests and activities of the volunteer. The celebrations, visits in the theatre, concerts will take place in the evening hours. Apart of that the daily work will be 8:30-12:00 and 14:00-17:00.

Condições: The volunteer is not only involved in the project and works there in a team but also integrated into a network of volunteers; they are all doing EVS in and around Würzburg. Regularly there are meetings with all volunteers offered by the coordinator; there is the early possibility to talk about potential problems at the project regarding culture, habitation, design of independent life, homesickness and different matters. For this purpose methodical offers are given. Through this it is feasible to recognize and work on problems in an early stage prior an escalation. The coordinator is reachable almost every time so the volunteers always have a contact partner outside the project in situations of a crisis. Due to obligatory supervision it is not possible for the project to host volunteers under the age of 18.

Formação: Through the contact with the Seniors Home, which already for some years has accepted many volunteers, we created the wish to invite volunteers to the hause. That would make the life of the seniors living there more diverse and colourful. By living together it is possible to create a varied and exciting exchange between the residents and the volunteers. The volunteers who are willing to work with old people and make animation program for them, they have the opportunity to contribute their personality and their culture to the enrichment of the seniors every day life (with their skills, abilities and talents like singing, dancing, cooking …). Thus the residents of the Seniors Home can experience something from the culture of the volunteers and they can simultaneously explain the German culture, the manners and the customs to the volunteers.
