Resumo: Work with pupils between 2 and 6 years.
Perfil: The volunteers should have fun dealing with children between 0-6 years. A free project place will be published through the eurodesk partner "Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken". We are open to work with each partner
Tarefas: There are a lot of foreign children or children with background of migration at the kindergarden. At the institution it is considered and used to be a chance, to get to know the diffe-rentness and the different cultures and to face this with regard and acceptance.
Because of the hosting of european volunteers it is possible to give the children at the kindergarden a further understanding of the european idea. The children are able to collect further experiences and improove their knowledge through the contact to a volunteer from a foreign country, in terms of intercultural learning.
The volunteers get the chance to integrate themselves with their most different abilities and interest into the community with the children. Also they are able to gain diverse experiences and to use them. On the one side the volunteers should take part and create the daily routine; on the other side they should integrate themselves with all their abilities and talents. During the freeplay time they are able to get in contact with the individual child or small groups of children and so they can pay attention to the children in an intense way. During the morning play they sample acitivities together with the focus on cooperation. Here will be space for the volunteers to bring in songs, games, dances, fairy tales, customs etc. from their home country.
Because of the orientation on the circle of the year with all the celebrations and religous fiests like thanks giving, St. Martin, St. Nikolaus, Advent..., they get to know a lot about Germany, german culture, values, norms and german pedagogic; and also german customs and traditions.
In the afternoon age specific groups with different projects take place for example early musical education, english play lesson, cooking group; weekly projects like gymnastic, trips, children confer-rence, or constant offers like the monthly forrest days or the visits of the city library.
Also they get the chance to get to know and to master the dealings with difficult children and also children in difficult family-situations.
The pedagogic concept of the kindergarden includes also the individual integration of handicapped children, which means a further field of experiences for the volunteers.
The volunteers are part of the team, they take part in all team-sessions, arrangements, analyses and advanced education for the team. Initiative of the volunteers like suggestions for activities, interior decoration, own projects are desired and are supported by the staff.
Activities in which the volunteers are involved:
- talking to the children
- playing with the children in different rooms (rule-plays, table-plays, gymnastics-room..)
- playing in the garden (games with the ball, ground-games, table-tennis..)
- domestic work: tidying the room of the group, cloakroom
- taking part in arrangements-talks, team-sessions
- taking part in specific offers with the children (handicraft, singing, gymnastics, listening and
playing of fary tales)
- independent transaction of offers with the children but under guidance of an educator
- a lot of space for the own initiative of the volunteers for the children (depending on abilities e.g.
singing songs, domestic work, language offers, painting, sports, making pottery, rhythmic, dan-
cing...)
The kindergarden ElisabethenHeim is a full-time institution and it is open daily from 7:15 am to 4:30 pm. Because the children spend a lot of time at the institution, the pedagogic concept focuses on the idea of care close to the family.
The daily routine is the following:
- free play (in different rooms, open offers like kneating, handicrafting, painting with fingers, flowing
breakfast...)
- morning play (see above)
- playing outside
- lunch together
- age specific groups (for special needs)
Condições: The volunteers are the subject to regulations of common working safety conditions. Moreover they have a tutor in the project, who meets them regularly to make reflection and evaluation. The tutor helps them with their own project-its organisation, planning, and realising. The project keeps close contact to a coordinating organisation, which takes care of volunteers beyond the work in the project. The volunteers are part of a net, made up from people around them- the tutorin, who has the responsibility in the project, a language teacher, who due to the regular language course gets a closer contact to volunteer. The tutor of the coordinating organisation meets the volunteers routinely . Due to these regular appointments, where evaluations happen, questions can be cleared, problems can be thematised and solutions found. Not only talks are happenning during these appointments, it is up to volunteers´ interests, if together cooking, trips, ice skating or swimming take place. Thereby the relationship between volunteers are supported and as well the relationship to tutor is established. The contact between volunteers- together living, having fun and spending free time together, plays an important role in this net, especially for each of them at the beginning of their voluntary service. Some particular experiences will be passed on from one generetation to another. The coordinating organisation keeps a regular contact with the hosting project. Inter and final evaluation with the volunteer, the project and the coordinating organisation is fixed. The sending organisations are involved in this process and are regularly informed.Should there be problems, they are in the solving process involved.
The early detection of problems and crises is guaranteed by this net, which acts for protection and safety of volunteers.
Formação: Due to acceptance of a european volunteer the european idea should be brought closer to children from the créche (day nursery)..Children gather new experiences and extend their knowledge being in contact with the volunteers from other countries.
This motivation above brought the organisation into idea of becoming a hosting project within EVS four years ago.The experience in that period, in which every year a volunteer from a different country had been accepted, showed, that the children profited from all the volunteers, became sensitised for the countries of volunteers´ origin and open for other cultures.
Not only the children have profited from the volunteers, so did the team of the organisation and all people, who got in touch with the volunteers.
The time has shown as well how good the different personalities of volunteers with their different competencies and interests were integrated into the community with children. Also the previous volunteers could have gained various experiences. In many cases they started first in the créche to find out their pedagogical competencies, they learnt to realize their talents, to use them and to develop selective offers for kids.
They experienced and learnt a lot about Germany , culture, standards, values and pedagogy. They got a chance to learn dealing with children and paretns with a migrant background and to manage dealing with difficult children, resp. children with difficult family background.
