Resumo: Creative activities for and with elderly people. Work with elderly people, playing, singing, cooking, hiking, organising festivals for the people or going out with them into the small city.

Perfil: The volunteers should have fun delaing with elderly people. The project is open for all young people and likes to work with different nations. Via Eurodesk network the EVS vacancy will be announced.

Tarefas: The good experiences in hosting volunteers which the elderly home has gained during the last years are the basis for the house to remain as a hosting project. The motivation of the elderly home to host volunteers is to facilitate a diversity and stirring together through the lively exchange between residents and volunteers. The volunteers have the opportunity to involve themselves with their culture, their cultural songs, dances, meals... As a consequence the residents of the senior house get to know something of their culture and at the same time they can show the volunteers the german culture with their habits and customs.
The volunteers will take part and be involved in all regular sequences of the social and psycho-social care of the seniors at the elderlyh ome. In the beginning they get to know the ordinary sequences to have a basis which enables the volunteers to implement their own projects with the residents. Doing this they will get all the support from the staff they will need.
The House Waldenfels offers a huge spectrum of tasks in all areas. Depending on the skills, wishes and interests of the volunteer, it is possible for them to involve themselves into the different scopes.
Main focus of volunteer tasks will be the social and psycho-social care of the seniors at the hause. This contains to accompany residents to concerts and theatre-visits out-of-home, as well as to go on a shopping spree, to run errands, to go for a stroll and trips.
Within the House the volunteers shall talk to the seniors, play games with them and if it fits to the abilities of the volunteers they can offer creative acitivities to the seniors or sing, dance (dance while sitting) or do sports within the realms of possibility of the residents.
From Monday till Friday daily occupations are taking place for the seniors, they are offered through an ergotherapist. The volunteers have the opportunity to take part in these activities and to support particular residents. Beside sports, games, music and crafts these offers also contain cooking and baking.
The management of the old-age-home is very open-mineded for any offers, the volunteers bring along from their own experiences.
Another task is to assist in the preparation of festivals. They can consider the content as well as the decoration of a room. Beside the seasonable fests like Harvest Festival, St. Nichola´s Day, Christmas, Carnival, Easter - the House gives action-weeks, for example bavarian, french, italian weeks; Beside the typical food of the particular country also the group-rooms are decorated correspondingly at what the volunteers can take over a central role.
Then there is a resident-newspaper. The volunteers also have the opportunity to participate operatively.
In case the volunteers want to work artistically, there is a possibility of long-term interior design, for example to design and implement wall-images or design the outdoor area.
Just as nice would be if volunteers with musical abilities arrange small concerts at the old-age home.
Still the old-age home is trying to create a Web Site. This is also a possibility for the volunteers to involve themselves.

Horário: The volunteers will work 30 - 35 hours a week at the old-age home. The exact working time depends partly on the interests and activities of the volunteers. Festivals, theatre-visits and concerts will take part partly in the evening hours. Apart from that the volunteers will be acitve in the normal course of operations between 8.30 and 12.00 and between 14.00 and 17.00.

Condições: The volunteers are the subject to regulations of common working safety conditions. Moreover they have a tutor in the project, who meets them regularly ( once a week) to make reflection and evaluation. The tutor helps them with their own project-its organisation, planning, and realising. The project keeps close contact to a coordinating organisation, which takes care of volunteers beyond the work in the project. The volunteers are part of a net, made up from people around them- the tutorin, who has the responsibility in the project, a language teacher, who due to the regular language course gets a closer contact to volunteer. The tutor of the coordinating organisation meets the volunteers routinely . Due to these regular appointments, where evaluations happen, questions can be cleared, problems can be thematised and solutions found. Not only talks are happenning during these appointments, it is up to volunteers´ interests, if together cooking, trips, ice skating or swimming take place. Thereby the relationship between volunteers are supported and as well the relationship to tutor is established.
As the project is located 75 km far away from Wuerzburg, the contact and appointments take place mainly on weekends. In the past the volunteers used to come very often to Wuerzburg to spend the end of the week there.
Some particular experiences will be passed on from one generetation to another. The coordinating organisation keeps a regular contact with the hosting project. Inter and final evaluation with the volunteer, the project and the coordinating organisation is fixed. The sending organisations are involved in this process and are regularly informed.Should there be problems, they are in the solving process involved.
The early detection of problems and crises is guaranteed by this net, which acts for protection and safety of volunteers.

Formação: The home for the elderly has already accepted volunteers since 2001. Due to acceptance of a european volunteer the centre has become even more open to public. The volunteers didn't bring only their culture and tradition with but also their personalities, which were always seen and taken as an enrichment for the centre. Being deeply integrated into animating , free-time and activity program of the elderlies the volunteers bring variaty and alternation into the life of the centre. Moreover the old people got motivation from the volunteers, the fast missing language skills were refreshenedand sometimes the volunteers were also the reason for the people to deal again with their life story(for example the elderly who came from the same country as the volunteers, the elderly who during the war stayed in the countries of volunteers,..) The contact with the volunteers supports open mindedness of the people from the home and of course the intercultural exchange and opening process.
