Resumo: Working in the open and integrative school concept with the pupils mainly in the language courses in English and France .Organizing leisure activities in the day care class.
Perfil: The volunteers should have fun dealing with children and youngsters between 9-19 years. Good English and French language skills are desirable..
Tarefas: The time has shown as well how good the different personalities of volunteers with their different competencies and interests were integrated into the community with children. Also the previous volunteers could have gained various experiences. In many cases they started first in the kindergarten to find out their pedagogical competencies, they learnt to realize their talents, to use them and to develop selective offers for kids.
They experienced and learnt a lot about Germany , German culture, standards, values and pedagogy. They got a chance to learn and to manage dealing with children with disabilities.
The team from the school consists of 45 people (teachers, speacialised teachers, free-time pedagogues). As it is quite difficult for the volunteer, especially in the beginning, to orient her/himself in such a big team, he/she will be assigned to one teacher and to a classroom, where he/she is going to work with Moreover they will be in the closer contact with a language teacher who also overtakes a role of a tutor in their project.
The children and youngsters work mainly in the form of a free-activity, which means that they chose different materials and try to make up with then various tasks and things. The teachers have roles of tutors,, they support the children and give them help when needed. The volunteers have the chance to get to know the materials and pedagogy of the Montessori school, they can practice different things and exercises with a single kid or with a small group.
Therefore the volunteers have enough free room for developing and offering their own ideas, projects. Especially they are supported by the langouge teacher as it is seen as an opportunity for children for example to get their interests for language and improve their English skills (English as an important communicative language in Europe).
Some of the activites which were run by volunteers - cooking and baking workshops with dishes from volunteers´home, role plays and theatre in English and French, traditional dances from the home countries of volunteers, conversation workshops in English and in French, volunteers accompanied small groups of children during school-exanges in Europe.
Moreover due to the stay of volunteer the pupils and the team should develop an interest für Europe, ist policy and opportunities.
Condições: The volunteers are the subject to regulations of common working safety conditions. Moreover they have a tutor in the project, who meets them regularly ( once a week) to make reflection and evaluation. The tutor helps them with their own project-its organisation, planning, and realising. The project keeps close contact to a coordinating organisation, which takes care of volunteers beyond the work in the project. The volunteers are part of a net, made up from people around them- the tutorin, who has the responsibility in the project, a language teacher, who due to the regular language course gets a closer contact to volunteer. The tutor of the coordinating organisation meets the volunteers routinely . Due to these regular appointments, where evaluations happen, questions can be cleared, problems can be thematised and solutions found. Not only talks are happenning during these appointments, it is up to volunteers´ interests, if together cooking, trips, ice skating or swimming take place. Thereby the relationship between volunteers are supported and as well the relationship to tutor is established. The contact between volunteers- together living, having fun and spending free time together, plays an important role in this net, especially for each of them at the beginning of their voluntary service. Some particular experiences will be passed on from one generetation to another. The coordinating organisation keeps a regular contact with the hosting project. Inter and final evaluation with the volunteer, the project and the coordinating organisation is fixed. The sending organisations are involved in this process and are regularly informed.Should there be problems, they are in the solving process involved.
The early detection of problems and crises is guaranteed by this net, which acts for protection and safety of volunteers.
Formação: Due to acceptance of a european volunteer the european idea should be brought closer to children attending the school or its after-school care club. Children gather new experiences and extend their knowledge being in contact with the volunteers from other countries. The volunteers should bring all their interests, skills and opportunities into this process.
This motivation above brought the organisation into idea of becoming a hosting project within EVS seven years ago. Nothing has changed about this idea up to now. The profile of the tasks the volunteers are suppose to do has been specified due to the experience with three previous volunteers. The last two volunteers worked especially at school and they contributed with their projects and activities to the european orientation of the school.
