Resumo: Children day care center

Impressions of EVS volunteer from Germany who was volunteering from the beginning of September 2010 till the end of June 2011 (10 months):
„My name is Laura and I volunteer in the children day care center in a small town near Vilnius. Everyday up to 30 children come to us between 12pm and 6pm and we help them to do their homework, play games, teach them English, cook and bake and clean with them. Besides we make some trips to Vilnius for example to go to the cinema or to concerts and we also go to swimming pools and other places in Lithuania etc. What I like about my work is that we have much space to include our own ideas and projects and also working with children in general because although you are responsible for them you can feel like a child again while playing, dancing, singing etc. I can’t experience it everyday but in general I think that the children really like to have volunteers in the centre. Some of them show that more, some less. What is sometimes difficult is to convince the children to do something like cleaning or doing their homework of course but also things like playing games. There are some times when they just want to sit around or to annoy each other.“

Perfil: The most desirable volunteer in our organization is the person who is able to take initiatives, responsible for his/her actions, creative and having positive attitude towards others. Moreover, he/she should be able to fascinate and arouse curiosity of children that usually are very passive and don't want to experience anything new.
The prospective volunteer should be ready to implement his/her ideas and innovations, be very patient and behave with self-control, because being with children from poor backgrouns can be very exhausting. That is why the volunteer should love children as well as the time spent with them.

Tarefas: The volunteer is expected to work directly with children 4 to 5 hours per day. What is more, he/she will be able to visit their families, to see their living environment, to help us to prepare for the festivities and events in the day care centre.
In the centre there are some local young volunteers coming to help in some activities.
Activities that the volunteer could organize are:
- to teach children foreign language;
- to teach communication skills through different verbal and non-verbal games, outdoor activities, workshops;
- coocking with children;
- to organize presentation about his/her country, culture, food, games, and such..
- together with children to visit old people or other children who have social problems;
- to teach dancing, playing instrument;
- to ride bikes, rolls;
- to make other sport activities;
- to organize hikes;
- to go together to the swimming-pool;
- to go together to theatre, cinema, museums;
- to participate in the excursions to other Lithuanian towns and nice places;
- to organize and to participate in summer camps;
- to organize events, celebrations inside the Day care centre;
- to represent volunteer's activities, and work to the community (through press, internet, celebrations and such).

Formação: We are ready to propose a wide range of cultural activities, such as visiting all well known and most exciting Vilnius' places, as well as visiting other worthseeing places in all Lithuania, participating in many cultural events and programmes.
The volunteer will be able to develop any ideas he/she has, new proposals and points of view will be highly appreciated.
Volunteers in our organization have a good possibility to obtain social skills, or develop it. They learn responsibility by working with social disadvantaged children, and they can show or improve their creativity in different workshops, excursions, and camps.
The stuff of the day centre is interested in having a foreign volunteer. Stuff members are happy to help to integrate the volunteer to day centre's and Sirvintos town's society, as well as Lithuanian culture. People are open to ideas of volunteer, and they always help to realize them.
