Resumo: (media and communication)

The hosting organization strengthens the voice of young people through media production. Youngsters are trained to develop professional skills in journalism and storytelling. They publish articles, pictures and videos on the the hosting organization website, as well as on the websites and print editions of mainstream and specialized media. The hosting organization organizes editorial meetings, individual support (coaching and equipment) and workshops/masterclasses for their volunteers.

As a youth organization, the hosting organization has a very outspoken policy. We firmly believe we are all in the same boat. We fully embrace the diversity of urban environments and strongly advocate an inclusive approach. Every youngster deserves the same chances and we try and compensate for whatever barriers they encounter. We work towards success experiences. This means that we make specific routes for every single youngster, where we take into account whatever skills he or she possesses at first, and where and how far they want to go in the coming period.

These trajectories make it possible for all (be it high income/college degree/strong social situation or low income/school dropout/difficult social situation) to work towards media output and the development of skills. This means that the project environment is mixed and we expect open mindedness and the ability to work with youngsters with very different cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds.

Perfil:  Healthy interest in city culture and demography. Enthusiasm and initiative taking.
 Skills in writing, video, audio and/or photography.
 Maximum age: 25 years old

Required language skills:
Excellent level of English, preferably knowledge of Dutch, or a real interest in learning and speaking Dutch at maximum effort.

Tarefas:  Making reports and documentaries (storytelling/journalism): audio/video/photo and/or text.
 Making video productions in the broadcast sense.
 Creation of multimedia content using storytelling techniques.

Horário: 38 hours / week (flexible between 9h – 18h) from Tuesday till Saturday. Evening work is occasionally demanded.

Condições: All participants will be hosted by a host family, depending on the project. Only volunteers who are truly motivated to live in a Belgian host family should apply for this project! Please be aware that our host families do not necessarily live close to the hosting organisation. The commute between your home and your workplace might take a while. Especially if you work in a big city (like Brussels, Antwerp or Ghent) it is very likely that you will be hosted in the suburbs and not in the city centre.
