Resumo: The space of the association comprises four exhibition rooms, a café room, offices, an archive, and storage rooms.
During exhibitions, the opening hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. As it is an open space and as we work with many different people, it's a lively place where many artists, collaborators and interested people walk in and out.
Perfil: We think the ideal age to spend a year in our association is between 18 and 30. He/she should be a committed person, able to work autonomously (of course supported by the mentor and the team in each stage of the project) and be open and interested in art, society, and communication.
We are open for any kind of sending organisation. Our coordinating organisation collects applications and passes matching ones on to us also supports us in the selection process.
Tarefas: We have two working places for the volunteers: one in the exhibition room where they are the first person one meets when entering , or they sit in the back office together with the team. The volunteers support us in all our projects, for example by:
- taking over small organisatorical parts of bigger projects (i.e. communicating with artists and organisations, doing researches, booking travels/accomodation, …)
- helping to set up exhibitions (not only hanging up pictures, but also preparing installations, setting up videoworks,…)
- giving information to visitors
- helping to keep our webpages updated
- supporting the team in all kinds of daily tasks
- attending to our archive
Condições: We are doing our best to create a nice and pleasant working-atmosphere for the volunteers and include them from the first moment in the community of the people in Graz! The volunteers are not left alone with their activities and are always supported by our staff.
Being constantly in contact with the association that coordinates EVS projects in Graz, and thus creating contact between the volunteers hosted by other organisations in Graz, we try to support a wonderful and inspiring year in Graz.
In the beginning of their stay, we provide the volunteers with all important phone numbers, we support them in obtaining a cheap mobile phone with an Austrian number, organise a free bank account for one year, an e-mail address, a bicycle, and whatever else is needed. We also give them tips what would be interesting or pleasant to do during their free time. The volunteers are accommodated in a fully equipped apartment in the centre of the city, where they each have their own private room. The volunteers themselves have to be insured by AXA.
They are provided with a bike, and we of course support them in all organisatorical aspects (getting a phone, bank account, etc.) and with tipps what to do in their free time.
Formação: We can offer an interesting surrounding and numerous interesting and multifaceted fields of activity for the volunteers. They are able to gain insight into organisational aspects of running an art association, they can assist in the setup of exhibition, communicate with artists and other art institutions, help prepare publications, and more. We believe that not only we, but also the volunteers profit a lot and can learn a good deal from becoming part of our organisation.
What we can offer in terms of Service and learning opportunities:
- the organization constantly organises several projects at a time (f.ex. exhibitions, conferences, interventions in public space, publishing books, etc.). It's a great place to learn how to conceive, organise and carry out projects of all kind - from the beginning to the end. This will thus support the volunteers' sense of initiative and entrepreneurship.
- EVS volunteers will meet many different interesting people - artists, activists, cultural workers, … and will thus be able to improve their social and civic competence
- the volunteers will be in contact with many artworks and will thus learn about contemporary art, about material and technical aspects of artworks, about their handling, and so on.
- the volunteers will be provided with a computer and will be handling technical devices (needed for the exhibition) - and can thus improve their digital competence
- sometimes the volunteers are involved in the creation and the handling of a budget for a certain project, which supports mathematical competence
- the association provides language courses for non-Germans speaking volunteers as well as for German-speaking volunteers who are interested in learning or improving another language
- by keeping worksheets where the volunteers enter the projects they are working on and by reflecting on what they have done together with the mentor and how they have learnt, we try to support their learning to learn competence
