Resumo: The Association des Compagnons Bâtisseurs, aka CBB, is a non-profit, non political youth organisation recognised by the Brussels-Wallonia Federation of Belgium. The organisation proposes different kinds of activities, based on volunteering and non-formal education: local and international workcamps, medium and long term voluntary services, leisure time activities for and with disabled people, campleaders trainings…
All these activities are developed thanks to a network of around 500 active members, more than 165 international volunteers and participants during the summer and a team of 10 employees and 2 long term volunteers.
As CBB is a Youth Organisation, most of its public is aged between 16 and 25 years, even if there is not upper age limit to integrate its groups of volunteers. These young people are actively involved in the structure of the organisation: 5 Board members out of 7 and 81% of the members of the general assembly are below 35 years old.
CBB is member of the belgian Confédération des organisations de jeunesse indépendantes et pluralistes and of the ALLIANCE of European Voluntary Service Organisations.
We organize our projects in the territory of Wallonia-Brussels Federation of Belgium, which means that our projects take place in the french speaking part of the country.
In the frame of our international projects, we maintain partnerships with more than 70 organisations and 49 countries from Africa, Asia, America and Europe. We work to offer young people the opportunity to open their horizon to new cultures and to train themselves to important values as respect of other cultures, marginalized people inclusion, minorities inclusion, critical citizenship, European identity.
Our activities must allow our volunteers:
- To thrive as free, autonomous and responsible individuals;
- To become aware of the importance of differences and intercultural dialogue;
- To get involved in society through volunteering;
- To develop skills and competences through non-formal education.
We present volunteering as a local and global permanent dimension.
Our activity is characterized by a network action where diversities of all kind find their place.
We are mainly active on international work camps, mid-long term volunteering projects, EVS outgoing and incoming projects, animators trainings, international youth exchanges, local activities focused on the inclusion of disabled people.
Under the frame of the EVS program, Compagnons Bâtisseurs work as coordination, hosting and sending organization since 1997.
CBB sends every year more or less 15 EVS abroad. The association organizes with the Belgian national agency the pre-departure, on-arrival and mid-term trainings foreseen to prepare incoming and outgoing EVS volunteers.
CBB host as well 2 EVS volunteers who integrate the organization staff and bring us new ideas and energy. Volunteers at CBB are involved in the organization of international projects and in the work done with people with mental disabilities as well as youngsters with fewer opportunities.
CBB coordinate four other EVS projects among which three are taking place in the town of Marche -en-Famenne and one in Liège city.
The participation in the EVS programme is natural for CBB. The programme fits really well with our philosophy.
Actually the association proposes activities based on the voluntary willingness of youngsters to be active citizens.
We dispose of a strong experience in the field of international exchanges and a big part of the employees of the association has been volunteer and this gives everyone the desire to offer other youngers the possibility to live the same wonderful experience.
