Resumo: The hosting organization is the UK’s leading charity supporting people with disability. Every year, we support thousands of people in the UK and around the world with physical and learning disabilities to fulfill their potential and live the lives they choose. We work to create a society in which every person is equally valued.
We believe that people with disabilities should have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose - with the opportunity and support to live independently, to contribute economically and to participate fully in society. This belief is at the heart of everything we do.For over 65 years, we have supported people with disabilities in many different ways to ensure that their opinions are heard, their values respected and needs met.
This includes providing care in people’s own homes, in supported rented accommodation, in residential homes, in day centres and through respite services. We make a difference to the lives of thousands of people by supporting them to develop skills through our employment, education, enterprise, health, volunteering and digital inclusion projects. We campaign alongside people with disabilities to bring about changes for the better, and to challenge ignorance and unfairness in society.
Internationally, we are part of a Global Alliance charities that works to improve the lives of disabled people in 54 countries. We support disabled people to have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose — with the opportunity and support to live independently, contribute economically and participate fully in society. We run projects addressed to young people with disabilities, such as Can Do, that offers opportunities for 16 - 35 year old disabled people to volunteer in the community or Change100 - an internship programme that brings together the UK’s top employers and talented disabled students.
Perfil: We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers aged 18 - 30, who have a genuine interest, a good sense of humour, and passion for working with people with disabilities.
No professional skills are required, however it is recommended that volunteers have an understanding disability related issues, and some experience with volunteering.
It is a requirement that the volunteers can carry a conversation in English and understand basic instructions plus that candidates are willing to proactively share with our customers their passions and skills
Tarefas: ESC volunteers are a very valued resource at the organization to help us reach our vision of a society where everyone can live as they chose. These vacancies are for community based ESC projects where volunteers will be able to support our many programmes in the local area, putting their passions to use while developing new skills and expanding their knowledge of disability, inclusivity, and collaboration.
Some of the tasks include: creating creative and media content; activities to encourage young disabled people to join in and be more active and healthy (e.g. surfing, rock climbing); environmental projects; music workshops, organisation of events (e.g. festivals and dancing competitions), fundraising events, campaigning for a more inclusive society, helping young people with employability skills; helping our customers developing digital skills.
Condições: Accommodation will be a rented flat to be close to all our community programmes and the local amenities. We endeavour to find an accommodation that will have a private bedroom and shared bathroom, kitchen, and lounge. Volunteers will have many opportunities to interact with the other ESC volunteers for a community feeling throughout the whole project. A weekly allowance will be provided for food and volunteers will be able to cook their meals. Any transport related to the project will be covered with public transport monthly passes or with a provision of bicycles.
