Resumo: (Scout Centre)
The hosting organization is an educational youth centre developed since 2010 as an initiative of the National Organisation of Romanian Scouts. The aim of the Scout Centre is to offer non-formal educational programs for children & young people, contributing to their development as agents of their own personal growth and as active citizens of their community. In this educational process, we are working together with the local community, helping each other, for an enriched cultural experience.
The scout centre is located in the old parochial house of the Evangelical church, a house built in 1797, restored and developed with the help of volunteers from all around the world. The Scout Centre is a place that belongs to
everyone.
Together with the volunteers, we built the Family and a place where young people can develop activities and experience scouting in a unique place, a traditional saxon village full of history.
The purpose of the project is to increase solidarity regarding natural protection in the rural community.
Through non-formal education, the project aims to raise awareness, develop practical actions, involve and empower children and young people from the Nocrich community to take action towards nature protection, biodiversity conservation, global development goals, solutions for local environmental challenges (5Rs).
Moreover, the project aims to improve the participants' knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors that are going to be certified, making it easy to translate them towards the labour market.
Perfil: If you are:
- between 18 and 30 years old;
- serious and motivated, energetic, creative and open minded;
- interested in working with children and young people;
- interested in developing project planning and management skills;
- interested in issues like poor education, environmental problems.
If, more than that, you want to live and work in a multicultural environment, in a rural
community, here is where you want to be.
Tarefas: The activities of the project will be centered around 3 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- Goal 13: Climate Action - Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
- Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
- Goal 15: Life on Land - Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss.
Each round in one year will have the same base structure:
- 2 weeks training for the 4 volunteers;
- begin awareness activities with the young people from the village, a local exploration for mapping the environment with the 15 children;
- biodiversity sessions related to the SDG of that round.
- implement 5 practical activities using the concept of the 5Rs, based on the specific environmental challenges identified and using methods proposed by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in Scouts for SDGs Actions, the Champions for Nature Challenge Action Kit , World Scout Environment Programme, Scouts go Solar etc.
Each young person will discover their superpower that allows them to bring positive change. Participants will prepare together a video describing their work, and also a set of measures, related to the SDG they are working on, to be added to the final kit.
At the end, participants together with the young people from the village will organise a Nature Fair: Take Climate Action, invite all their friends and family, local organisations, institutions, and other relevant actors. The fair will act as an inspiration and dissemination platform for the activity results and for increasing the awarenessnof locals and institutions towards nature protection.
Condições: Accommodation
- provided in the Scout Centre;
- in the middle of the village;
- beautiful historical house;
- kitchen, dormitory, shower room, toilets;
- activity room;
- dining room;
- wifi;
- library;
- huge yard;
As volunteers, you will have to share the housing facilities and you will also have to bear in mind that you are coming to a rural area, which means that some of the modern comforts that can be found in big cities may not be available in the village. But don’t despair! The centre, where you will spend most of your time, is equipped with all these things and more, so you shouldn’t be lacking in anything while doing your activity.
Pocket money
You will receive a monthly allowance of ~90 euro (3 euro/day).
Food
You will receive healthy meals or a food allowance of ~150 euro/month (5 euro/day), including during the holiday period.
The team usually likes to cook and eat together so we normally put money together and go shopping in the big city once per week. This is not mandatory and you can of course buy and cook your own food alone.
Transportation
There is a budget allocated by the programme to cover the transport from your own country to the organization.
There are however certain restrictions imposed by the ESC guidelines depending on the country you come from. Generally the budget allocated for each volunteer is enough to cover the cost of their flight. Further details will be discussed after the recruitment stage has finished.
