Resumo: The association is a non-profit organization. It mainly supports students. This includes hearing impaired children and young people who get their care in other institutions and families in the region. This care is in the areas of early intervention (care and support) and special education
In the related pre-school, hearing-impaired children are cared for and supported holistically (body and mind). These are the children who are not able to visit institutions in their home community. Until they reach school-age, the children are organized in small groups. They also have specific activities and pre-school support to help them. This gives them the opportunity to: learn how to best use their hearing ability, develop and improve their speaking skills and learn about the environment. They can also experience being a part of a community. In this special community, they can comfortably learn about their skills and weaknesses. They can also practice and develop their skills for social cooperation.
After morning lessons, the boarding students (who live in the school’s residence) eat lunch together in their home groups. The external students (who don’t live at the residence) eat their food at the lunch room (Mensa). The external students go home after their afternoon lessons. The institution puts the external students into day-groups. They are offered additional support, for example: eating lunch together, special support activities, support with homework and projects that help with daily life.
In the residence groups, the children and their teachers model daily family life. After doing homework, students do various support activities, for example: sportive and environmental study groups, creative activities to develop personality and social skills, bicycle workshop, animal care, student meetings and
disco.
Education to become independent and self-responsible is important. Regular practical advice from theteachers makes
development problems clear. These development problems can be treated from early is very important.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Volunteers should like working for the development of needy people. They should be open to working with disadvantaged young people or youth who might be excluded from society. Past experience in working with special needs children and youth would be helpful. Volunteers should be able to individually design and plan activities. They should also be helpful and be able to work with other team members. We encourage volunteers with special knowledge, skills or interests to make their own projects. Volunteers should be able to connect with other people. They should also be comfortable in changing situations. A basic or beginner level of the German language would be helpful for volunteers.
An interest in learning German is expected.
A Class B driver’s licence is an asset.
Values of our work, which should be followed in the European Voluntary Service:
- To accept special needs children and youth together with their own individual characters
- To assist children and youth in difficult times of their lives
- To support and work together with the all the organization workers
- Be true to the organization and act responsibly in line with the organization’s end purpose
- Be excited and help develop future chances for youth (in work and life)
- Be ready to use imagination and to accept change
Volunteers should write a ‘project-related motivation letter’. This is a letter about why they want to volunteer at this organization. The decision will be based on motivation. It will not be based on background, gender, language skills, or level of education. If possible, there will be Skype interviews with the candidates.
Tarefas: Learning Possibilities:
The volunteers learn about the possibilities and skills of working with a team.
In their work, volunteers learn about the social demands of hearing impaired (low to no hearing)
people.
The volunteers also get work experience at the institution. They develop their skills to support hearing
impaired people.
Working on a social project gives the volunteers job orientation and perspective for their future.
When volunteers independently design care activities, they can be proud and learn to depend on their
own skills.
Volunteers will participate in internal job development activities. This offers volunteers specialised
knowledge of how to care for disabled people.
Volunteers should speak German with the children, youth, and co-workers. This helps volunteers to
feel stronger in their daily speaking. The language lessons will also help to make corrections and will
make their German stronger.
Volunteers can integrate into a foreign culture. They can also experience self-determined, daily life in
the local community. Because of this, volunteers develop a better connection with people and develop
their individual future chances.
Suggested Activities:
School and residence workers guide the volunteers. So, the volunteers can help organize the support programme and free time events for the students.
Volunteers use their own skills and ideas, for example: art and manual skills like handiworks, sports, etc.
In the beginning, volunteers will only help the support staff. Volunteers will have a training term with limited responsibility. After this time, volunteers will get more responsibility according to legal liability rules.
The main area of work will be helping with: the education and support of the children and youth, the free-time activities, and additional support activities. Suggested practical activities are: sports or communication activities, support on class trips or group activities, playing games together, etc.
We invite volunteers bring their own ideas. The workers invite students to use their personal ideas to develop support activities for the students. The workers help the volunteers to design and integrate into the group situations. They also help with finding and using important materials.
Using their own creativity, volunteers can co-design important activities, for example:
• Support and help for the hearing impaired students during school and free-time
• Co-design of support activities for teaching children to be independent
• Support when going to a Schullandheim (country house used by schools for short visits) and during study trips
Values of our work, which should be followed in the European Voluntary Service:
To accept the disabled children with their own individual characters
To assist children and youth in the difficult times of their lives
To support and work together with the all the organization workers
Be true to the organization and act responsibly in line with the organization’s end purpose

Just like the employees of the institution, the volunteers must also help with continuing, everyday duties. Duties in the residence groups can include, for example: shopping, housekeeping, and homework support. Volunteer duties can also include: assistance with the care and management of the materials in the leisure and education area.
Volunteers have the possibility to do continuing-education training at the facility. The area of training is
in child and youth education.
The workers at the institution are consulted before hiring the volunteers. Volunteers should work
approximately 38 hours weekly.
