Resumo: Bird ringing aims to monitor survival rates of birds, and to collect information about their migration routes. This information, which is shared at the international level, is vital to support for conservation as it helps to understand how these processes influence population sizes over time. Identifying the mechanisms is the first step in reversing the decline rates. Many of ringers are also the nest recorders.

The gathers vital information on the breeding success of Turkey's birds by asking volunteers to find and follow the progress of individual birds' nests. Anyone can be a nest recorder after a brief period of training. Some people watch a single nest box while others find and monitor nests of a whole range of species.

The recovery rate has been dropping fast, meaning there are fewer birds from which to estimate survival rates, and researchers have to do more complex analyses to account for this change. Both of these mean estimation of survival with less precision, and in turn less effective conservation advice. As a result, it is important to keep ringing and then, looking for and reporting ringed birds. As OAM, there are reporting centres and websites to report when a ring is found. These sites operate at the international level and the information is multi-lingual and open to the researchers from around the globe.

Perfil: Age: 17-30

Tarefas: a) bird ringing (from August 15 to October 31) - during sun rise and sunset times of the day,
b) Studying and recording the distributions of birds (bird count), their population densities and changes over time, arrival and departure dates of migration, breeding seasonality and population genetics (January 15 to February 4),
c) And, other times the volunteers (EVS and others) support the staff in recording the results of these studies.
