Resumo: The host organization is a centre run by the Italian Church. It hosts elderly with variable degrees of self-sufficiency and people suffering from the Alzheimer disease. People are hosted in three residential units and in a daily centre. The total hosting capacity of the centre consists in 84 residential clients and 12 clients of the daily centre.

In September 2013 it is going to be opened also the Caffè Alzheimer in the city, that will be open for 3 hours a day every month. The house is part of a network of structures that collaborate together, for example in the organisation of common activities for the clients. 60 people are working in the structure, most of theese operators work for the assistance of clients and patients; the other employees are nurses and educators. The house mainly hosts people coming from the neighboring area, but also people coming from the city of Torino and its outskirts.

The activities organized in the House are mainly linked to the assistance to the elderly and to people suffering from dementia and all general services connected to everyday life of people living in the centre (kitchen, cleaning, laundry room, administration, maintenance, transportation, etc). The main tasks in the residential and day centres are carried out by trying to adapt them to the needs of the clients; therefore, we aim at personalizing daily intervention as much as possible. There is an active sector in which the volunteers are particularly involved, the organization of entertaining activities both inside and outside the structure and for a single and groups of clients. This sector collaborates with other structures of the area, in particular the ones run by the Church.

In summertime, before the end of July holidays, the Refuge hosts other foreigner volunteers engaged in a workcamp.

Perfil: We do not have particular requests.
It is mainly important that the person is motivated, open and willing to carry on a life experience in a context that is different and often far away from their own.

The volunteer should be a person eager to know the clients of the centre, to relate to them following the indications of the staff, to learn from everyone the teachings that can be offered, to listen to their stories, creating together with the staff a familiar and welcoming atmosphere.

Tarefas: The activities proposed to the EVS volunteers are the following ones:

a. Soft Gym;
b. Cooking and assistance during meals;
c. Taking care of the person;
d. Artistic activities and laboratories (dance, painting, reading)
e. Knitting;
f. Music Therapy;
g. Gymnastics for elderly;
h. Exercises for the maintenance of the cognitive functions;
i. Gardening;
j. Shopping;
k. Excursion to the surrounding areas;
l. Listening;
