Resumo: The host organization runs a school for children aged 6-14 years, based on principles of progressive education, esp. Montessori and nonviolent communication. With our school, we aim at supporting and guiding children on their way to responsible-minded, confident and open-minded persons. Furthermore we try to deepen contacts and intensify common activities with other educational institutions and establish a centre for progessive education in the region and across the close border to Slovenia.

Currently, there are 26 children attending our school, which started in 2010. Since autumn 2014, our new school building in the city of Leibnitz is finished.

Perfil: We would appreciate open-minded volunteers feeling confident with spending time and working with children starting at the age of 6. The management board would decide about a recruitment after hearing the teaching staff.
Age: 17-30

Tarefas: The school welcomes volunteers integrated closely into the daily work and community. Daily work in school has project groups as a main tool characterized by working idependently but guided and supported by teachers. This leaves much opportunity for volunteers to accompany the children in their process of learning, but also in after school care.

The volunteers will become acquainted with the prepared environment and the respective learning materials, always supported by the qualified teachers. We see volunteers and their personal, cultural and lingual background as an enrichment to our school and the education of our children, so we aim at using their knowledge and personality actively.

Therefore we would welcome an active volunteer´s participation in school. This should include sharing language skills and experiences from the volunteer´s personal background - geographically, cutural, socioeconomic circumstances etc. As examples, volunteers would be welcome to guide projects with a group of children about the volunteer´s religion, language, home country etc. There will also be time and space for their own studies if wished and own proposals for projects. In terms of learning opportunities, volunteers can expect firstly to gain language skills (German), secondly valuable practical experience in working with children aged 6-14 and thirdly practical and theoretical skills (there are workshops and seminars on a regular basis) about methods of progressive education and nonviolent communication.

Finally, intercultural learning itself is not only relevant for the children but also for the volunteer. We aim at including the volunteer also in common activities so that (s)he should also be integrated in the local community.
