Resumo: The host organization is an Environmental NGO based in Ireland, that works through research, advocacy, education and campaigning to influence public opinion and decision-makers in Ireland against on-shore unconventional hydrocarbon development and towards practical policies on energy sources and uses that respect the environment, the planet and people.

Perfil: Age: 17-30

Tarefas: Volunteering will involve:
1. Working with the our team in their campaigning activities which include:
• Lobbying decision-makers nationally to raise awareness of fracking and issues around environmental and health impacts
• Maintaining the website, including contributing to social media. An important aspect of this is networking with international groups with similar aims.
• Researching facts and impacts of energy sources and helping to prepare position papers on various aspects of renewable energy sources, fossil fuel exploitation and climate change.
• Assisting with organisation of events, e.g. conferences, public meetings, submissions to Statutory agencies, music gigs, art exhibitions, etc.
• Attending meetings and contributing to discussions.
• Assisting with letter-writing campaigns and other publicity drives.

2. Working with other local community development groups. These include the local Development Company and Hall Committee; Festival committee, Traditional Music Weekend committee. The volunteer would get the opportunity to work with the committees and other workers, engaging with local people and participating in local cultural events.
The volunteer will become involved in both local, regionally and nationally important programmes already in place, including:
a. The campaign for a moratorium on fracking in Ireland, North and South b. Promotion of sustainable energy sources and uses
b. Organisation of local festivals and other community activities, including youth projects
Volunteers will have an opportunity to become involved with an active campaign (environmental awareness and campaigning) that will certainly give them invaluable experience of engaging with all levels of society, from local community groups, to elected representatives, Ministers, MEP’s, and international figures. They will engage in research, desk work, “field work”, presentations, organising meetings and assisting with seminars, and project building. The learning opportunities are wide ranging. The volunteers will engage in democratic process with local councillors, and community groups, to move the environmental awareness raising campaign on further.

Learning opportunities
This project will give volunteers a great opportunity to promote their social and personal development. They will be working in a rural setting and will get to know how the local community works and thinks. They will also be able to build relationships with local community youth, who are very friendly and hospitable.
They will work in a team to keep the issues in the public’s mind and organise awareness-raising and educational events.
