The volunteer will do her EVS in a Residential centre for people with psycho-physical disabilities.
The role of the volunteer will always be of support for the professional staff in order to understand the behaviour and attitudes of the 9 disabled hosted in the house. He/she will help the social workers in recreational and educational group activities and in general in every aspect of everyday life. In particular his/her tasks will be:
- Supporting the disabled people in knowing the neighbourhood where they live, the local resources and the community where they are inserted. The volunteer can help them in using the services present in the vicinity (post-office, hairdressers, gymnasium, swimming pool, laundry, etc.). Furthermore, the volunteer can lead some guests in finding and knowing how to move with public transport and how to reach places.
- Organization of leisure moments aimed at developing guests and volunteers personal hobbies and specific abilities in creating objects to use during everyday life, in the centre or into community in general (gardening, sewing, painting, etc..). The volunteer will have the opportunity to stimulate the guests (active participation) into the activities with creative laboratories and dedicating to each guest care and attention for integration into the community.

The volunteer will always be supported and helped in the realization of new ideas and actions for the guests during periodical staff meetings. He/She will be on service from Monday to Friday, for 6/7 hours a day, always in the afternoon from 2.00 p.m to 9.00 p.m for about 32/35 hours per week. He/she will have the weekend off, but sometimes it may happen that the volunteer is asked to be present during Saturday and Sunday, in these cases she will be able to choose other free days in the week.

Centre for children and pre-adolescents
During the service, the volunteer will have different tasks but his/her role will always be to support the activities organised by the professional workers. The volunteer will support the staff in the organisation of small study groups in which young people (divided by age and possible disability) do their homework, search additional information and are helped to overcome barriers to learning.
The professional staff usually arrange learning activities and workshops for each different age group, in order to create the most ideal environment for learning and development. In this way different age groups can be engaged in different activities exploring different aspects of a common theme.
The volunteer will also be asked to take part in organizing the various workshops and atelier: the workshops are places in which young people "learn by doing" and "do in order to learn" (e.g. corporal expression, the creation of objects, recycling, music and artistic activities). After the first months, the volunteer will be asked to plan individually some leisure moment particularly linked with his/her competence or hobbies and will also be encouraged to share her culture through different activities also encouraging the children to do the same (we have Italian youth but also youth from migrant origin). The volunteer will be offered to take part in a wide range of activities including arts and creative workshops, educational workshops, group discussions, etc. When schools close, at the beginning of June, the afternoon centre becomes a “summer camp” and it’s open all day long with more outdoors activities so the service timetable will be changed.
