Resumo: According to the Romanian census of 2002, there were 42,029 people living in the city. Of this population, 81.75% are ethnic Hungarians. The city is known for the pilgrimage organized every year before Pentecost, hockey culture, built heritage, seckler traditions etc.
A few kilometers to the east of the city centre is the monastery. A wooden-sculpture figure of the Virgin Mary, can be found in the monastery church, which is the destination of a traditional pilgrimage of Roman Catholic secklers, held since 1567. The event, held every year on the last Saturday before Pentecost, attracts several hundred thousand people. The mass for the pilgrims is held on a meadow near the church. This traditional gathering is not only attended by Hungarians living in the region, but also by a great number of Hungarians from other parts of Transylvania, Hungary and all over the world.

From the different sports that can be practiced, hockey is the favorite. The team of the city is the first in the country. The ice rink, hosts the annual national ice hockey championship. The only long track speed skating rink in Romania is situated next to the indoor ice hockey rink. For those who love winter sports, there is also a sky track at about 15 km from the city.
From the built heritage of the city we must mention the Castle, built in late Renaissance style, which today by giving place to the Museum, it hosts several collections from fine arts to ethnography, archaeology, old books, natural sciences, weapon collection and open air collection.
