Resumo: The care home for the elderly was established in 1948 and 1950 was moved to its current location on the shore of the river in the city. From the initial fifty the number of residents over time has increased to two hundred. This is a governmental institution currently accepting residents from all municipalities of the country. The organization is working according to the Social Services Act and the Social Security and Labor Ministry procedures.

Since 1994 Lithuania carried out intensive reforms of social care institutions. Social work programmes were created and first social workers started working in the care home greatly improving rehabilitation and medical services for the elderly and the disabled. Our major goal is to provide for the residents various services, taking into consideration their needs, likes and interests.

Today the personnel of the organization provides a comprehensive capital quality of services, promotes residents’ independence and self-fulfillment, the desire to live active and get involved in home care activities. The organization acts as a methodical center social workers from all over the country can advance in their qualifications.
the Care home has strong focus on residents’ adaptation and rehabilitation. Some rehabilitation areas undergo continuous improvement: applied physical therapy, water therapy, traditional methods of treatment, psychotherapy, various activities’ therapy, and many others.
