Resumo: The volunteers will live and work in a city with 220 000 inhabitants. It is a very old city, located on the river Elbe. Unfortunately a large part of the city was destroyed during the Second World War, so that most of the beautiful architecture was lost.
The city developed into a centre for heavy industry during the last century. Due to the economic changes resulting from the German reunification a lot of the factories were unfortunately closed. Like other cities Germany, this city has a high rate of unemployment, which causes social tension and problems, particularly in those parts of the city which were built in the 60ties and 70ties.

During the last years the number of students at the universities has steadily increased. The cultural life in the city is also very rich and active: theatre and cabaret offer an interesting and constantly changing repertoire, and there are a lot of museums and galleries as well as different cultural activities that you can visit.

Perfil: We are looking for curious and open-minded volunteers who can work creatively, independently and flexibly. They should be interested in cultural, historical and political backgrounds, particularly in focus of the German – polish relations, enjoy working in a small team and have the right social skills to engage in project work with young and, in some cases, disadvantaged participants. In addition, the volunteers should be interested in cultural and media pedagogy, which also implies a willingness to test themselves in this area and to be trained, even if they have no previous experience.

It is also necessary to enjoy working with members of different cultures, religions and educational back-grounds. We would therefore be happy to receive open, tolerant and eager-to-learn volunteers who want to expand their horizons and who have the necessary sensitivity to deal with the respective categories.
Experience in the area of political and intercultural educational work, photography or modern communication and public relations work are advantageous, but are not essential.

Interested young people can contact us directly or though our partners. During the selection process we will challenge in particular the motivation for the voluntary service, the expectations with regard to our project and the applicant's own wishes and interests for his/ her learning experience. Together we will examine together whether the wishes and the interests of the young person are compatible with the objectives and possibilities of our EVS project, and will develop a mutually agreed-upon plan for tasks and position profile.
During the selection process young people who have already worked in common projects in the background of regional partnerships and town twinning’s will be favoured.
Age: 17-30

Tarefas: The project is an opportunity to get involved in the long-term development of our youth projects and to explore diverse fields of activity.
The long-term individual stay in a foreign country includes a multitude of intercultural learning experiences that shape personality development. Through the work in the different areas of activity we would like our volunteers to strengthen their so-called soft skills in the form of independent work and demeanour, teamwork skills and cooperation and empathy and understanding for others, etc. At the same time language skills and country-specific knowledge about Germany are passed on, which can lead to an improvement in later career prospects. Experiencing these diverse activities opens new perspectives and emphasises the importance of tolerance, democracy and intercultural learning as well as active participation in our society and its European context.

The volunteers acquire knowledge and skills through their participation in regional and municipal cooperation. Through the participation in specific projects they can also learn a lot about project organization and project management. The volunteer have an opportunity to acquire specific knowledge in the field of public relations in the design and updating of print media and websites.

The first activity of a volunteer is the cooperation on cultural projects, organized due to the town twinning. For this reason the focus is on the Polish Culture Days in Saxony-Anhalt. The concept of the event is to present the videos, organise some concerts and exhibitions. The aim is to highlight the diversity of Polish culture and make it clearer to other people. The volunteers can develop own ideas, how to improve the project and also be more active in documenting and promoting the event.

Volunteer can also organise own cultural projects in oneworld house or in cooperation with other European Volunteers. It can be for example presentation of Polish videos or movies, Polish cooking studio or other exhibitions.
Another working field is the editorial work on website of the association or preparing creative design of publi-cations, leaflets and posters for concrete actions such as Saxony Day, Europe Week or Polish Constituti-on Day.
Moreover, the volunteer can be responsible for materials for events organised in Saxony directed to polish youth, for example Eurocamp or student exchanges.

Quite concrete set up the idea of youth exchange under the project Upgrade-Festival, where young people from both cities create an art projects and during the meetings two times a year, they learn interactively. Here appears the opportunity of participation in the form of video documentation or organizing individual workshops.

In addition, the volunteer will be involved in the organizing of intercultural workshops at schools, together with other volunteers, the host organization would lead such workshops as German-Polish understanding to promote active exchange and encounter between the neighboring countries.
All of these activities are based on the volunteers’ interests and desires, and are regulary reviewed and if nec-essary, adjusted or corrected.
