Resumo: Our Association operates in cooperation with other organization in the region. We help mentally handicapped children and youth, proving that it is possible to overcome the limitations of their disability. Our school has been functioning for over 86 years, which makes it the oldest institution for mentally handicapped children and youth in the town. It is an institution with established traditions, with a reputation of providing great education, revalidation and intelectual development of mentally handicapped children.

The school is also providing care for children in kindergarten, primary school and middle school. The age spread is therefore quite large as in our institution there are children from ages 4 until 21. The classes are small, with groups consisting of usually 12 pupils, which allows for the class community to function properly. Currently in the institution there are 136 students in 16 class groups, over whose care watch 50 experienced teachers. The school grounds include a community center (frequented by about 80 children attending various activities which support the school's work - musical, art, physical) as well as the school's dining room.
Our institution is strongly supporting our students’ interests and despite intelectual handicaps our pupils are achieving numerous successes outside school walls.

The town allows discovering Europe's history by visiting the many historical sites, buildings and churches, such as the castle where Polish kings resided or the Jewish district. Recently many multimedia museums have been opened, for example the Schindler Museum or the Underground of the Main Market Square.

Perfil: A volunteer may be anyone, regardless of gender, race, nationality, political views or health or age state. Volunteers at our school will be engaged in a year-long educational and revalidation program. It will allow them to receive and broaden the knowledge and interests, make friends and get experience and social abilities during teamwork, specific methods of working with mentally handicapped children.
Our school is for mentally handicapped children. Working with them is often surprising and difficult but very enabling for emotional growth. Volunteer should be open to any challenges, be a warm person, creative and emphatic. He should easily make connections in a group. It would be nice for him to have additional abilities, i.e. vocal, musical, manual or sport.

Working with and contact with our pupils allows to develop levels of warm feelings, make a person sensitive towards another, and experiences from working in our institution will help the volunteers with further emotional growth. A good sense of humor is always welcome. The first selection stage will be coordinated by the agencies dispatching the volunteers. The final decision will be made by the host organization in cooperation with the coordinating organization. This definitive choice will be based on detailed research i adapting individual volunteers to their target assignment. It was important to us, what the interests of the volunteers are as well as what is their motivation towards this particular project. It was also important that the chosen volunteers were greatly different among themselves for them to be able to create individual projects covering many areas.
Age: 17-30

Tarefas: Volunteers will be warmly met in our school by both the teachers and more importantly the students.
Volunteers would help with everyday activities in the kindergarten and in the 1st - 3rd grades of the primary school during classes requiring additional care, such as art classes, gym, individual revalidation, and all kinds of school trips - to the movies, theatre, museums, amusement parks, school festivities, education projects and integrational presentations and competitions. They would also participate in parents' meetings.
We wish for their presence to bring an international accent to our activities by sharing their countries local games, traditions or specific songs.
The volunteer would never be left alone with a child, he would not conduct classes or activities by himself as there always will be a teacher or educator present.
