Resumo: The organization is the materialisation of one of the programmes of the Department of Sports and Youth. The work done by the Office revolves around different areas of action which serve as the basis for each and every one of our services. These areas are housing, employment, training and international mobility. The latter gives rise to a variety of activities including raising awareness about the advantages of living an international experience (through personalised counselling, talks, workshops, etc.), management and promotion of European projects with a local and international impact for individuals and groups and promotion of foreign languages, and so on.

Some of the most important features of how the organization is managed are the modernisation and updating of services and resources offered to young people, the ability to provide a direct, well-devised response to new needs that arise and the spirit of outreach and mobilisation of the Office itself to other areas of the city where young people interact.

Along these lines, and as part of the Host Project we propose, the volunteer would become part of the staff at the organization and, specifically, part of the team that manages the area of international mobility, giving support to and collaborating on activities and projects that are already up and running, those that have recently been established or those that will be implemented during the volunteer’s stay.

To this end, and with our sights set on expanding and giving even more visibility to each and every one of the projects we promote, the volunteer will also collaborate on activities and projects to further and disseminate European programmes, and the volunteer him or herself will serve as a reflection and real-life example of the different possibilities for going abroad. In this respect, he or she will provide support in organising and developing activities to raise awareness, to encourage the learning of foreign languages and to promote other proposals that may result from the needs of young people and from the interest of the volunteer.

The volunteer’s role will be very important in that he or she will be an example of courage, entrepreneurship, hard work and sociability, concepts with which we fully identify ourselves, but with the added value and significance that a person of a different nationality can offer.

Our commitment in hosting a European volunteer is that this person will take on a role in which he or she will support and directly collaborate on the activities mobilised through the organization and specifically those related to the area of mobility and international cooperation. Hence, the tasks that he or she specifically conducts will be part of an overall project where the volunteer’s involvement will be essential.

Perfil: The profile of the volunteer we need is someone who wants to experience and understand in depth the peculiarities and intricacies resulting from the work in an area of the City Council, a person who is motivated to form part of a young and dynamic management team and who, above all, is very excited about learning and about teaching us.
It is also important that the volunteer be interested in working directly with young people (individually and in groups) and that he or she be very active in creating dynamics, some of which are occasionally aimed at groups at risk of social exclusion.

The volunteer will become part of a well-established project and part of a team made up of different profiles permanently ready to give the volunteer support in any way he or she may need. As a result, the young person need not have specific studies. If the volunteer is receptive and open to feedback, there will be significant learning on both parts. One aspect that we do consider important to note is that the volunteer should be motivated to promote European citizenship and the international programmes that enhance international mobility through dynamic workshops, participative talks, discussions, etc.

In addition, we think it is important for the volunteer to have a high-intermediate level of English, which is essential for stimulating English conversation groups, and he or she should also be capable and willing to give talks in public. The talks will be for small groups of young people of between 10 and 30 people, but we believe that the volunteer should have the desire to speak in public and some basic public speaking skills.

The project will be added to the EVS database, and we will ensure democratic access to the project through a recruitment process that is as objective as possible based more on the volunteer’s letter of motivation and less on his or her curriculum vitae. The organisation , in conjunction with the lead coordinator of the the organization, will select the volunteers that best fit the required profile, giving priority to those who have not had too many previous opportunities or experiences in order to assure that what the EVS has to offer is provided to as many people as possible.

Tarefas: The organization internal organisational structure which the volunteer will become part of is made up of an exceptionally strong multidisciplinary team. It is comprised of social workers, professionals from the field of education and counsellors specialising in the areas of housing, employment, training and international mobility. It is a dynamic and flexible staff resulting in a multifaceted and motivated team. The service is well-organised by area and structured in responsibilities, and all of us form part of a single structure in which constructive and cooperative teamwork is the key to good performance.

The Office is one of the ways in which young citizens have access to government and, in this regard, we emphasise the quality of service given to young people (individually and in groups) as one of our priorities. We exemplify the learning of municipal strategies for understanding and detecting the latest concerns and needs (following the impact of the social changes that are transforming the reality of young people) which are used as a springboard to activate a mechanism to optimise services, thus making us a completely modern, up-to-date and innovative municipal service.
In particular, within the area of international mobility, the volunteer will enrich the service by affording a truly European dimension to the work to promote mobility. This is a very important role, as the volunteer will be able to share his or her experience with other young people who are interested in taking part in a mobility project.
The volunteer will be able to participate in the following activities:

1. Collaboration within the youth programme.

- Welcome and provide information to users who come to use our service for the first time, explaining the general and specific services we offer and referring them (internally) to the best resources for them (counselling, quarterly programme, etc.).

2. Promotion of mobility and international cooperation as a line of action of the youth policy of the Department of Sports and Youth.

- Promote and enhance our volunteer sending service by organising gatherings for young people who want to learn about the programme with others who are currently in the procedure to go abroad and with people who, like the volunteer, are in the midst of their own voluntary experience in our country. There is a team in charge of processing and managing projects stemming from the European Voluntary Service, so the volunteer will never be responsible for this aspect.
- Collaborate on the quarterly programme of talks and workshops for young people concerning the various areas of emancipation by creating new workshops and working on those focusing on international mobility. One of the volunteer's specific tasks will be to organise, give and evaluate a talk or workshop within the context of the European Voluntary Service.
- Support local or international mobilisations and projects to promote international mobility directed at groups for young people (associations, foundations, group classes, etc.).
- Galvanise and organise language activity consisting of English conversation groups. These groups are intended for foreign language speaking practice and are divided into intermediate and advanced levels separated by age: groups for young people aged 12 to 18 and aged 19 to 35 are held Monday to Thursday. Fridays are more casual and flexible and are reserved for informal and dynamic activities for practicing English (video forums, games in another language, cultural outings, etc.). The volunteer will be in charge of organising and galvanising these groups and of promoting and disseminating them.
- Support the language exchange partner service and any activities arising from it. This service has been in operation since 2009 and consists of two (or more) people meeting to exchange and practice speaking a language. To more widely publicise and boost this service, we organise a meeting of young people for language exchange, which will be primarily organised and mobilised by the volunteer.
