Resumo: Living in community wih people with learning difficulties „ We are people with and without intellectual disabilities, sharing life in communities belonging to na International Federation“ (Quotation from the Identity Statement of L´Arche International) To our community in Tecklenburg belong three houses, in which there live altogether 18 inhabitants with mental handicaps and up to 20 employee- coworkers and volunteers whom we call assistants. In addition lots of friends belongs to our community.

Tarefas: Die volunteers will participate in the weekly team meeting and in regular supervision sessions. Own ideas and impressions are welcome. After three months an evaluation is firmly rooted in our concept of guiding. This involves a detailed and a bilateral agreement on the feedback and other support facilities (such as an external mentorship and participation in seminars of the ark Europe). Furthermore, it is discussed with each other, which project according to own abilities and skills the volunteer would like to plan and carry out. There are many ways to conduct a fundraiser on behalf of our partner community in Zimbabwe, the cooperation and creativity in various meetings of the Ark of Germany and Austria, the design of an internal newspaper, various art and music projects with our project and carry it out (gladly with the involvement of residents) Apart from these "special" actions is the daily interaction still an essential part of our community life. Here are to be done such household tasks as (laundry, shopping, cooking, cleaning), also craft work or work in the garden. This could mean: to bake a birthday cake, to paint a room, to create a small vegetable garden and maintain it. Again, we look back together on the talents and interests of a volunteer.

Condições: The volunteers will live and work in one of our three home communities (if possible one in each house). They are an additional supporting enrichment, which means they are not considered as specialists in the care of our residents with disabilities. Everyone has their own (furnished) room. The first weeks of the voluntary service are about, "participant’s observation", in order to get to know our daily life and first tasks in the household (for example, preparing of dinner) which will be taken over later on. A good guide is very important to us. From the first day the volunteer receives a regular, professional and facing instruction by house leader (group leader), who is about the take over the tutoring. Here comes soon the acquisition of smaller entertainment offers for our residents, such as common games, walking, painting and tinkering. A good teamwork is an important condition for a successful co-existence in our community.
