Resumo: Is a regionally working NGO. Our aim is the conservation, protection and development of natural landscape. This gives living habitat for rare and endangered animals and plants. We realize this especially by - manual work in the landscape to get a good state of preservation and to develop biotopes such as wet and humid grassland, moors, small lakes and rivers, pollared willows, … These works mainly are realised in the area of the Natura 2000 programme of the European Union. - giving information to the public of the particularity and the biological value of specific and rare animals, plants and landscape - acting as lobbyists to influence government and policy - periodically meeting groups of children, young people and elder people engaged in themes of nature protection - environment education for school classes and other interested groups of people in different ages. Is an organisation of about 600 members. Our activities are carried out by up to 60 honorary working members and 2 employed people working in the office, 1 employed person responsible for organising our little shop where we sell products of our activities (mostly natural apple juice and lamb) and some fair trade products. For the manual work in the landscape we have employed 1 person for the general works and 1 shepherd and an apprentice for our herd of sheep. At the moment they are supported by 2 boys doing a social service instead of doing military service, 4 teenagers working voluntary on our ecological projects for one year and 2 participants of European voluntary service.

Perfil: The volunteer should have interest in themes of nature and environment. She or he should like do physical work outside in the nature. Personal endurance and a living interest facilitates the work in project and to feel at home in the association. The volunteer will find a complex working and by reason of the great part of honorary working persons also complex structured organisation. So it is important that she or he is personally independent and an open minded person who can communicate, who is able to take initiative and to cooperate with others.

Tarefas: The tasks for the volunteer can and may be very different and depend on her/his specific skills. Normally the volunteer gets an first general view of the activities and then we decide together what she or he will do. Nearly most of the time the volunteer will work together with other people. The main activities will be done in the project "Manual activities concerning the conservation and development of the natural landscape". This work will be done in a group of young people. The tasks are different depending on the season. In summer there is e. g. helping to cut the grassland, repairing fences, … in summer and autumn there is gathering apples to make natural apple juice, in autumn and winter there is to eliminate bushy trees out of the moors, in spring there is to work at the fruit-trees and preparing the grassland. All the year long there is helping at the herd of sheep. The volunteer has to be conscious, that this work is carried out outside in the landscape and it is physically strenuous. Some tasks can be done in our project "Environment Education". The volunteer can help to organize and carry out periodically meeting groups of children and young people for environment activities and environment education. This can be done one afternoon in the week and in summer we realize a nature camp for ten days for about 30 children at the age from 9 to 12 years. There are also some caretaker tasks at our ANTL Centre. The possibility to work in our project "Public Relations" depends on the specific skills and the knowledge of the German language of the volunteer. E. g. if the volunteer is good in taking photos maybe she or he can help to report our activities. The volunteer shall take part at our public excursions and public information meetings about nature and environmental themes. This activities will be distributed over the year and take part also on weekends.

Condições: The supporting organization provides an appropriate accommodation possibility for the volunteers. In Westerkappeln there live volunteers in a group house for volunteers with an own bedroom and a common day-room and a common kitchen.
