Resumo: (homeless shelter)
Our Vision is of a society in which everyone, across the world, has a place to call home and a stake in their community.
Our Mission is to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it.
We believe homelessness has no place.
We exist to serve homeless individuals and families, caught in the spiral of homelessness, deprived of all control of their lives. When every door is closed to them, the organization is there because they deserve support to rebuild their lives and progress to a positive future.
We approach this:
With compassion and a willingness to do whatever it takes, no matter what.
With expertise and professionalism so the most excluded get the help they deserve and are not overlooked or ignored.
And we don’t stop there – we innovate when services are needed.
We advocate for hard-to-reach groups and are willing to take risks to make sure that services exist for those experiencing homelessness.
Perfil: Age: 18-30
Placements are open to applicants from participant countries, between the ages of 20-30. We look for participants who are highly motivated, with a passion for social justice and can bring their energy and enthusiasm to brighten the lives of our service users. Ideal candidates are adaptable, proactive and able to interact well with all types of people. We work with some very vulnerable people, so a certain resilience is required, and an ability to give and receive feedback effectively. No prior experience is necessary, but we would like you to consider how your knowledge, skills and experiences can form meaningful projects.
Tarefas: The project will take place across seven residential services operated. In each Host Project, the participant will be responsible for developing and leading a programme of fun and social activities which is complementary to the service provision delivered by the staff team. Six young volunteers will have a quality volunteering experience which will enable their personal development in terms of soft skills, independent living and proficiency in the English language, allowing them to gain experience in the social care sector and explore new career possibilities in a supportive environment.
Condições: Provided accommodation for ESC participants in a safe, warm house in a residential area, amenable by public transport. Each participant has their own bedroom. The organisation keeps the house supplied with basics such as food staples, sanitary items and cleaning products, and food is available at some of the host projects. ESC participants receive weekly 'pocket money' to cover living expenses.
All of the host projects are located within walking distance of the accommodation, with the exception of one; travel allowance is made available for the volunteer in that case.
