Tarefas: Hosting a european volunteer is for us the opportunity to share a local and regional history and heritage, as well as getting a new point of view on our past, in order to create new products towards young public. It is also a way to get into a local partnership.

The main role of the volunteer will be to develop new actions of the museum together with local partners, especially with schools. Also he will be a support for the good function of museum and the cooperation with the french volunteers involved into the museum.
The volunteer will receive the visitors and will do the operations with money and tickets. Progresslively, he might also come to give informations to the visitors and eventually to some groups. He will learn the informations from books and also from the conversations with former sailors who regularly visit the museum. And this will be also the opportunity for his perfection of french language.

The volunteers of museum dedicate one day per month in the museum for necessary works, especially for maintaining the ships. This will be an opportunity for the volunteer to meet former sailors, they will share with him their know-how. The volunteer will learn something from the competences of the sailors, as how to tie knots. And then he will use these new knowledges for some demonstrations or workshops with the schools and leisure centers.
The museum hosts every year a “Canal class”, in which pupils of a primary school (6-11 years old) discover the topic of shipbuilding during the whole year, through different activities (history, scientific experiences, litterature, ..). The volunteer will participate to receive the group of children, to organise the activities and the going-out together with the members.

The volunteer will participate to the activities projects of the museum, for example he experiment a game about the history of Redon made by ex-EVS volunteers. Other actions can also consist in collecting testimonies from persons who have some connection with navigation – fishermen, inhabitans, seamen, photographers - this will be in the collaboration with Committee of Brittany’s canals ; making videoclips or powerpoints to animate the exhibitions of the museum ; helping on the maintenance of one ship which is signed up in Historic Patrimony, named Condorcet, organise scientific experiences for the children and continue to write some pedagogical supports for them, participate to punctual projects connected with local partners (“the days of Writters”, various exhibitions). He will develop some activities with different partners and this will provide him the possibility to use the french language and to meet numerous professionals from different topics.

Also the volunteer can present an aspect of the navigation in his country in the museum.
Finally, he will participate to the organisation of a collective project about Europe, together with other EVS volunteers in Redon.
Depending on the personality of the volunteer, he will have more or less autonomy to propose some new actions for museum if he wants to : it is also important for the museum to have somebody who will bring new ideas and also new points of view.

The hosting of european volunteers in Redon is coordinated by la Mapar, and this is this association which is in charge of the lodging of the volunteer. In consequence, he will have a day-to-day contact with other volunteers and will participate to the projects organized in commun.
