Resumo: The organization is a national project. To work with 4-18 year olds at risk of leaving school early by supporting them and their families.
1. The organization formed in order to combat children leaving school early.
2. Our purpose is to help provide an interagency response so that we make the best use of the expertise existing in the area. Through the different services we aim to provide a holistic approach to the needs to the young people with whom we work and their families.
3. We recognise the value of each individual with whom we work and the importance that they reach their full potential. However we place particular importance on encouraging those who are struggling to attend school most. We aim to give opportunity to these young people that they would not normally have.
4. The activities mainly happen ‘in school’ , 'After School' and ‘During holiday times’. The majority of our work is giving educational support, both socially and academically in school. A lot of time is spent helping young people with their homework. We also help with music, art, sport, communication & team work, language & culture, drama.

Perfil: The volunteer needs to have good communication skills with an ability to encourage and support children and young people. It can be very difficult to work with young people if you are unable to communicate clearly, so language skills are important. The volunteer will also need to be able to work as part of a team along with the staff and teachers. To show initiative, be flexible and be enthusiastic about all parts of our programme.
All our work is based on having a positive relationship with young people and children, so the ability to build up a good rapport with them is very important. Maturity is required as young people will look to you as a role model. We work with student who can be quite difficult to motivate and so if you have just left school it is unlikely that you will be mature enough to deal with them. For this reason we usually take volunteers who are 21 years old or more.

Condições: Volunteers need to feel comfortable in a rural and isolated situation and have the motivation to travel. The ability to get to know people in the schools and local community will be important for the enjoyment of your stay here. So you will need to feel comfortable talking to people even a little bit extrovert in order to engage well. Having an interest in sports, music and languages, is an advantage.
