Resumo: The host organization is a non for profit voluntary organization managing services for people with special needs. It works in the social health care defending the civil rights of disadvantaged people facing mental, physical and relational disability and of their families too. Since 1994 Anffas runs the modern centre, a residential and daily care service for 75 people with light and severe special needs.

This project is very innovative at a local, national and international level as we will make use of the Digital Storytelling: the modern extension of the ancient art of storytelling. It is a method which can easily be used as an empowering learning tool for special groups. The term Digital Storytelling describes a simple, creative process through which people with little or no experience of computers gain skills needed to tell a personal story as a two/four-minute film using predominantly still images that can be streamed on the web or broadcast on television. This project addresses one of the most vulnerable social groups in society - people with special needs and it is innovative because it's the first time that Digital Storytelling is used to give voice to people with severe special needs while it is usually used in marketing.

This project offers different learning opportunities to volunteers: relational and professional skills to work not only with people with special needs and schools pupils but also multimedial skills in order to create the Digital Storytelling Videos with which disabled people can express themselves even if they cannot speak verbally. Digital Storytelling is indeed a new form of communication that unites images, sounds, music in order to give a message that can be easily shared using the social media. We all know that people with special needs are not truly included in society, although there are some interesting activities organized for them but it is just FOR them; even some individual projects run by social services do not forsee the inclusion aspect which is essential for a more complete society. Anffas PN prooved that planning activities and workshops embracing our target group together with pupils and students, young people not in education, not employed nor in training and try to create a new mentality it's a winning challenge! The expected outcomes are numerous and not only for the people with special needs: all the people involved in this project will earn to accept individual differences and these differences will be seen as unique abilities. Other benefits are: improve the level of key competences and soft skills for everybody, more active citizenship, increase sense of initiative, self-esteem and self-empowerment, improve learning performance, boost multimedial skills, how to record, use video programmes, how to add music to a video, how to put subtitles, edit videos, improve foreign language competences, enhance intercultural awareness and dialogue, for sure greater opportunities for interactions as everybody will be more integrated into the local community.
