Resumo: The Occupational Centre is situated in an easily accessible residential area of the town. It provides care for 40 service users with learning disabilities through different Areas (Personal and Social Support, Occupational Training, Pre-employment Training and Auxiliary Services of Transport and Food Provision). It is open from Monday to Thursday from 9am to 4.15pm and on Fridays from 9am to 2.45pm.

The residential service has two different centres, with 11 and 8 service users respectively. Both are in one-family houses, Madrid and are based on the idea of creating shared living units made up of people with disabilities, employees and volunteers of the organization. This is achieved through both therapeutic and day-to-day activities.

Perfil: Age: 17-30

Tarefas: The tasks of the volunteers are supporting people with disabilities intelectual Center or residences. Participation in activities Leisure and workshops. Participation in daily life.

The aim of the project is for the Erasmus + EVS volunteers to support the professionals in the areas of work which they carry out in the Association for people with learning disabilities, both in the Occupational Centre and the Supported Living Houses. The Occupational Centre was founded in 1980 and supports 40 people with learning disabilities with ages ranging between 18 and 60 years old. It has different craft workshops (candle making workshop, weavery and book binding workshop), where each service user develops their skills, as well as different therapeutic activities (painting, dance, movement, gardening….). The first place is a supported living house in which 11 adults with learning disabilities live together and are supported by 6 professionals and 2 volunteers. The second place is also a supported living house where 8 adults with learning disabilities live together and are supported by 4 professionals and 2 volunteers. The aim of the support given to the people with learning disabilities is to provide them with the social skills necessary for daily life and an adequate training in the different workshops and artistic activities as well as personal and group support.

The idea is to create a close-knit community of people (professionals, volunteers and people with learning disabilities) in which the individuality of each person is respected and nurtured. The project asks for the participation of volunteers who form part of the civil life of the European Union, to carry out activities in the field of care of people with learning disabilities. Additionally, through the development of the Erasmus + program, it is hoped that the young Europeans who collaborate in our institution will become more conscious of what it means to be European and will experience first-hand the idea that “we are all Europeans”. What´s more, they are given training in social services, enhancing their professional profile, which could be useful in the future when looking for work or setting out on a career in the third sector.

It is also intended that the volunteers participate actively in different debates and forums and that they learn about different aspects of the makeup of the European Union. These activities will take place both in our institution and in public sector institutions (principally the local council of Pozuelo de Alarcón and the Regional government).
