Resumo: Our project is already approved and we have already the sending partners. We are looking for volunteers who want to experience an extraordinary year in our placements where we host our volunteers. Next year we plan to host up to 12 EVS volunteers + 2 non EVS from various countries. Some placements are still free. Placements that are still free deal with mentally disabled people, kids in a private small school, free time centre for kids and teenagers, elderly.

Perfil: A core of the programme is dialogue and empowerment through service therefore we put stress on candidates who are between 18-28 years old: flexible and mature, with a open mind; willing to work with elderly, physically or socially weak people; or work with children and youth; willing to learn a language (Slovak) needed for the work; willing to know different cultures and stay for required time (11 months) in Slovakia; able to develop new programs in the placement and to take the initiative of organising these programs; open and willing to learn from the others and at the same time ready to offer her/his abilities and skills as a contribution; willing to respect a cultural diversity together with the fight against racism and xenophobia; open and willing to be in a group of volunteers reflecting on their experiences together; able to live simply in a flat with other volunteers, sharing a room (or in a family); open not to have a comfort like at home respecting other people with their condition, abilities and faith; willing to get some basic practical experience related to future work in placement before she/he starts a service; willing to disseminate and exploit gained results; intermediate English language skills. And have: social competencies; a positive attitude towards multiculturalism.

Tarefas: The volunteers are assisting in the centres according their needs. Volunteers have a working schedule which takes up most of their time.

The activities are focused on individuals or a group, accompanying clients, preparation and implementation of various activities with an additional value that is different from the daily routine. The volunteers are encouraged to be initiative and to bring and run a mini project to the activities or seminars with the consultation of their supervisor. Besides the regular daily activities focused mainly on working skills, developing creativity, self-discipline, etc, the CO also concentrates on non-formal learning and supervision, and organizes additional seminars and supervision meetings with volunteers. We use various methods for workshops: discussions, fun activities, arts and crafts, music. The activities of the volunteers take place in various areas and the HO.

Their working time is about 6-7 hrs per day, 5 days per week, max. 35 hrs per week. Slovak lessons are provided 2 hrs/weekly +10 days of an intensive course at arrival. Volunteers are working in their centres/organizations (C/O) during their working time. In Bratislava we offer a possibility to try also some other activities in the C/Os we cooperate with in the EVS area. This possibility helps to gain new skills and experience; and also helps to keep the VOs from feeling bored or not useful enough.
